Beautiful grounds in the Sussex countryside, magnificent trees, lovely old house with historic memories for Kipling fans. Good food, excellent shop and lovely gardens.

Ok so I am a huge Kipling fan, but not usually fond of National Trust properties, for one my dog can’t come along.
Spent a fantastic post Christmas afternoon in the grounds and house of this lovely place.
Food in the cafe was good and reasonably priced. Not crowded and had lots of time to read the memorabilia and soak up the atmosphere.
Topped off by listening to a volunteer reading some Just So stories.

Always a great place to visit at any time of year. The theme this Christmas was around theme of ‘Just so’ books and did not disappoint. Great volunteers as well

The house was still decorated for Christmas and was very festive. There is something very homely about this house that I like very much. The cafe is very nice and we can recommend the date loaf and flapjack. A wonderful place to while away a few hours

Too much to see on one visit so be prepared to visit again and catch the things you missed first time round. The second-hand bookshop is a little wonder-cave. The restaurant/cafe is efficient. Average age of the staff? About 102...but very nice.
