“Sorry to leave”

Old English Inns are fast becoming my hotel chain of choice and the Roebuck has just confirmed that.
I stayed there for one night on business. Warm welcome, super room, hot bath and a great well priced evening meal. An oh so comfy bed on which I slept extremely well. Breakfast was also up to scratch with lots of choice and good quality. Minor criticism was wifi was fairly slow. Worst thing about my stay was having to leave. Keep up the good work

Booked a short break @ the roebuck for the 11th & 12th of march, we travelled from the Isle of Wight & have stayed there on 2 previous occasions both times finding the hotel staff & service excellent. The weekend before we left home light snow was forecast for east sussex, so before setting off checked weather & travel websites and decided to travel, unfortunatley during the journey the weather deteriorated so decided to go straight to the hotel, we arrived lunchtime & to our surprise were able to check in straight away, once again the room was good staff helpfull & service better than expected.
That evening the roads around the hotel became blocked by snow, people were walking to to the hotel & phoning for rooms all night, The manager & his staff were excellent trying to accomodate people, when there were no more rooms available they did their very best to try to help the people who were stranded providing pillows & blankets in the bar area in what turned into subzero blizard conditions. the following morning it was still snowing & the forecast once again did not look good, we approached the manager for help who extended our stay for a further night to allow the weather to improve.
we were booked into the hotel and are being looked after well but if ever we were to get stranded I could only wish that there was a hotel like the roebuck together with thier excellent staff close by to help.
Well done to the roebuck & all the staff

We were married here on 9/3/2013,after looking at many much more expensive venues in our area we found the Roebuck to be by far the most accomodating for all our requirements.
Absolutly nothing was to much trouble,Nick the manager liased directly with our friends who were helping us and was always available for advice that we needed.
On the day all the staff were brilliant, and i mean ALL,the Chambermaids started early, all our rooms were ready by 10am,we had booked 5 for family etc. My bride had her hair and make up done in the rooms,The Ashdown suite was available to us from very early in the morning for setting up.The bar staff were very helpfull all day and really knew their stuff!
The food was supurb..we had a choice of courses..unheard of for most weddings, all of which was served hot and very efficently, kids were catered for brilliantly.
The resident DJ (included in the price) played what we asked for and was great..we didnt even see him set up or leave..proffessional!
The evening buffet was also supurb...you can chose your own dishes and make up your own combination...dont order too much!!
All in all if your looking for a venue in this area take a good look here...there are many 4 times the price that will offer you very little more,if at all!,everything you will need will be found here and your guests will all be very well looked after.
Highly recommended

I used this hotel for an overnight business trip. Although looking tired in certain areas (grouting in bathroom, broken window latches, loose door handles) I had absolutely no complaints about cleanliness, the quality of the bar food or the politeness of the staff. A very comfy bed made for a good nights sleep.

A building of character, that represents very good value for money, just do not expect perfection. I would stay again when in the area on business

We didn't stay overnight, but the overall ambience is country house hotel, rather better than what you'd expect of a 'naice'' pub. Smart but relaxed. We enjoyed lunch in one of a few different eating areas with comfy chairs in a dining room with a great view of the Ashdown Forest from the back window. Bright and sunny. We ordered drinks first, nice to see good range of nonalcoholic, and sat down to browse wide menu. Good selection of light and heavier meals inc some pub usuals like Hunter's chicken to more adventurous fare. Good wine list, reasonable. The daily specials are a cut above - I enjoyed the chianti beef casserole which was really tender. Not quite gastro pub but moving in that direction. Service with a smile. Lots of local interest brochures etc. pristine loos, disabled access, tudorish furniture, very reasonable bill. Will go back, suspect evenings and Sunday lunch here are fab.
NB sleep quality wasn't terrible - my iPad won't remove that dot!

I stayed here on a business trip with a colleague who stays there regularly (he recommended it). We had Late Room bookings - £50 for a Superior Double. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable, with good quality bickies and drinks stuff, but what really impressed me was the food - we had an evening meal on arrival and it was excellent. I would quite happily go there just to eat in the restaurant if I lived locally. Breakfast was also very good and the staff are friendly and efficient. Thumbs up from me :)
If I was nit picking, the outside of the hotel is looking a bit jaded, but to be fair it was a miserable day and nothing looks good in that weather. Time for a bit of maintenance soon though I think.

Stopped here for late lunch. Looks lovely from outside. A little like an old people's home inside though. Food was nothing special but the menu sounded great. Not sure we would visit again, although staff were very friendly.
