“Way to Relax”
Reviewed 14 April 2013

This was our 4th visit to this lovely old place and, as usual we were pleased that nothing had changed - except for the menu - added dishes. The food was it's usual excellent self and the staff could not have made us feel more welcome. No hesitation in telling our friends about a great way to spend a relaxing weekend. Thank You Roebuck

Four of us really enjoyed our good value cheap break here, the rooms were large and comfortable, breakfasts and dinners were excellent and well priced, all staff were brilliant, plenty of parking and a pretty outside space

Room Tip: rooms at the front overlook busy road

We went to this hotel for lunch on 8/4/13.
The service was perfect in the main bar area. The menue was extensive with a lot of varity of home cooked food.the hotel has a nice relaxing atmosphere with a beauitful outside area next to the main bar and restaurant.the staff did their best to welcome us and nothing was a problem to them.
I highly recommend this hotel for holiday stay, weekend breaks,or like us for a nice lunch.

Many other guests have rightly highlighted the positive features of the Roebuck, good rates, comfortable rooms, a reasonable breakfast, value menus and quite a lot of character. However, this comes at a price, the management. The boss is a really unpleasant person and you can see the effect it has on the junior staff, it's not a nice atmosphere (the junior staff are very nice and good at their jobs though). You can tell they only work there because they have no choice. We were over-charged for some items on our bill and he made out that it was our fault and we felt really guilty. When he decided to remove them, he didn't apologise. Its a shame but hopefully he'll move on.

Thank you for your review. I was most concerned to read your comments, as the issues raised are certainly not in keeping with the standards, quality and customer care normally associated with The Roebuck. Please accept my sincere apologies for the shortfalls experienced on this occasion. If you would like to contact me at the Hotel directly, I would be more than happy to discuss your comments further and resolve the outstanding issues for you and indeed extend you a warm welcome back to The Roebuck

We stayed here for three days with our two dogs because of the price and the convenient location near the Ashdown Forest. We found the staff extremely attentive and helpful. Although the decor was a little tired the beds were comfortable the room was warm (during a very cold week). The breakfasts were diverse, well presented and tasty. I would certainly recommend this hotel and stay again when I am next in the area.

We have stayed here twice and will certainly return. Lovely comfortable room, great evening meal and breakfast, fantastic value. Highly recommended!
Only thing I would suggest to management is to supply face flannels in the bathroom in addition to the towels.
