We visited the halfway house on 2 occasions to get the full benefits of giving this survey, The first time the staff were very abrasive and not welcoming and we went again today and we agreed the service was the same very abrupt as if we were not welcome there. The food was ok nothing to wow you though!
A lot of other good choices in the area.

If only the landlady,s welcome was as welcoming as the hanging baskets! I took my disabled mother to this establishment, ordered roast beef and asked for one to be rare and one to be well done. The lady almost launched the dinner at us, I asked which is rare and was told "it's the end of the joint and its all we got" then walked off. We ordered desserts at £4.50 each one pie with custard and one with ice cream. Got one with custard and one with cream, I explained we wanted ice cream and the landlady Sally snatched it back without saying a word then launched the custard at us by which time we had almost finished the pie. Another point I would like to Make is we asked prior to our booking if dogs were welcomed into the pub. Was told in the bar area only. Not a problem we are used to that. We walked in with the dogs and the landlady Sally almost had a pink fit as her dog which was behind the bar tried to jump the bar to say hello. Sally the landlady huffed and puffed because it was a great inconvenience to her. Don't think we will be returning in a hurry unless we hear the pub has new owners.

I've known this pub for over 30 years and personally thought it was always a scruffy white elephant of a place. Some remodeling has been done, some matching furniture purchased and the bar extended. It is now a rather nice country inn that serves some excellent food at a reasonable price. I had a very decent portion of scampi and fries and it was cooked to perfection. The desserts were excellent too.

We came in one Sunday with parents and baby so its got to be good when taking them out!
We've tried the other pubs along this road and found this to be our favorite due to the size and atmosphere.
We had the roasts (chicken and beef) which came out generously sized and the meats cooked to perfection.
With the meals it had to be Harveys (Sussex best) and they were perfect!
Overall this is the best pub on the stretch with great food, booze and a huge family based garden :-)
Roll on summer!!!

Visited here for dinner last week. Food was served promptly and was of a good standard, but next day we all conferred and felt it has high salt levels leaving an after taste. Good meno selection. The pub was very quiet for a Saturday night. Good real ales particularly Harveys best bitter. Easy parking and well sited on the main rd between Lewes and Uckfield.
