“Excellent staff, charming building, shame about the sculptures”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 March 2014

On arriving at this beautiful old house I was rather startled to see tacky statues of animals in every direction, plus all sorts of other structures totally out of keeping with what must be a listed property. However, inside the hotel, the staff are incredibly helpful and friendly, Alex the manager is very attentive and the food is very good. The mattress on the 4 poster bed was a bit hard but managed to plump it up, but a large and peaceful bedroom overlooking some wonderful trees was pleasurable. A very depressed looking peacock is entrapped in a tiny cage which was a pitiful site. The grounds have some wonderful old trees but someone seriously needs to remove these awful statues which aren't even eccentric but terrible taste. Imagine having your wedding photos with one of these in the background. The tennis court looks good and when the pool is cleaned up in spring should be lovely.

Have been going to this hotel with the Starfish project(A course to help control a stammer) and I have been there multiply times since 2010, The food and rooms weren't up to good standard in the past but have been back recently and It has improved a lot.
The food was excellent, diner room has been redone and rooms has been redone as well.
Hopefully they continue to improve as I was amazed how much it has improved and has hopefully listened to the negative response's that they have received.

Stayed in a double room with ensuite (room 19) for a wedding in july. The shower did not work, the room had considerable damp, the wallpaper was peeling badly and there were bulbs missing from multiple lights. The curtains were mismatched stained, broken (off their runners) and so thin they let the light through.

Spoke to the desk in the morning requesting another room but they were fully booked (wedding) so we had to stay another night in the room. They also were not allowed to give discounts up front giving us the managers details. We wrote to the manager... Twice!attacheing photos and recieved no response or discount. DO NOT STAY HERE

On the plus, Staff were friendly and apologetic and the breakfast was OK. Scenery also nice.

From the moment we arrived there was not any Christmas Cheer.Dog friendly this hotel is NOT.The room was dirty and there are too many things broken to write down. There were not enough staff and the few that had worked were doing many jobs The owners and management need to take a good look at everything as they are in the HOSPITALITY business.Never again a Christmas ruined.

Room Tip: None. The whole experience was awful.

Decided to book Xmas night so i wouldn't have a long drive home......i wish i hadn't bothered!!!!
What staff were on duty were very nice.
Main problems were:-
The heating in the bathroom made it like a sauna but heating in the room didn't work
Sink tap didn't seem to work then came off in may hands
The shower definitely didn't shower...it didn't even trickle!
All the milk was out of date
Minor complaint but beds way to soft and pillows like rocks!!
On reporting this on check out i was told it would be feed back but they doubted anything would be done about!!!

Warm and welcoming reception. A lovely log fire in the bar. The Sussex Room which we had booked for our family lunch (15) was beautifully decorated with Christmas tree and several side tables for our use. Tables and crackers of the highest quality. Unusual soup (Cauliflower/ apple ) delightful. Smoked salmon starters mouthwatering. Main meal varied and enjoyed by all. Rest of menu excellent. Serving staff slip silently in and out. Cheese board enormous. and all of this in a beautiful setting. Our ages ranged from 16 years to 78 years and we are still talking about the wonderful experience we had at the Boship Hotel, so much so that we have booked for Christmas day next year and a special occasion in the Summer. Well done the Boship!.
