“Nice weekend break”
Reviewed 30 April 2013

My girlfriend and I stayed recently at the Old Vine and had a really good time. Gillian and her husband were very hospitable and the rooms were nice and modern. The food was also good value and the pub had a good atmosphere.

The location was great for exploring the local area e.g. you can walk to Bewl Water; Scotney Castle and Bedgebury Pinetum are a short drive away.

Spent 1 night at The Old Vine on Monday 22 April. Room was modern, comfortable, warm and large with it's own ensuite. Our family of 3 had a great stay in this quaint and friendly pub. The hosts Gillian and Matthew were very welcoming. Dinner by the open fire was lovely as was breakfast the following morning. Would thoroughly recommend this pub/B&B to anyone.

I would rate the room I stayed in here as 3 star. Great 16th Century Building, 2 excellent wood fires. Untidy back areas, rubbish around. Refurbished areas inside for the accommodation. Bed was wobbly with DIY mods to frame slats, en-suite was new, clean and decent shower and bath. First morning I got up to a freezing cold room, made staff aware, disappointed that the second morning it was exactly the same, despite arranging get-up time. Not sure if timer/programmer working or set correctly?
Decent breakfast first day, second day it was pre-cooked and kept warm, not great.
Pub food ok, £18 for fillet steak - best onion rings ever tasted! deep fried mushrooms greasy & inedible. Still charged full price for meal! Would have appreciated some reduction offer/free drink at least?
Would prefer own key for entry to building, but had to knock the door unless pub open time.
