“Stunning setting for a very good hotel and spa”
Reviewed 1 July 2014 via mobile

My partner and I visited Ashdown for our anniversary and were very pleased with our choice. We got a package which included dinner, bed and breakfast and a treatment in the spa. We both enjoyed a lovely massage and used the gym and pool facilities which were nice too. The dinner was in the gorgeous dining room of the hotel and the service was very good. The food was tasty and we enjoyed some nice wine too. Our room had a lovely view of the park at the back (I think we may have received an upgrade as we told them in advance it was our anniversary and they had made a note of this for when we had arrived). The rooms were a little dated but nicely done. The breakfast was amazing with a massive choice of top ingredients such as smoked salmon and fresh honeycomb. We then had a walk of the grounds which are very beautiful and well worth some time in your visit. Would recommend to anyone with a special occasion but it is a little costly otherwise.

This place is just BEAUTIFUL I can't explain with even the most extreme words how it feels here. I truly believe this place is blessed with natural ambience and peace. It's the simple beauty of the grounds the Bambi that run around playing, the total silence at 5am in the morning when the deer can here you put your coffee cup down from a ridiculous distance. It's the Molton Brown Toiletries and the huge rooms over looking the gardens. It's the picnic blanket under the Oak tree with a bottle of bubbles and lunch. It's the Afternoon massage after a game of golf. I could go on but it was worth every single night. We originally booked two nights and stayed nine!!!! I hope that says it all. Going back again in July 2014 and hoping the weather is as amazing at it was this time last year. Rob & Chris Lock

Room Tip: Suites over the Terrace are beautiful.

We stayed overnight during February combining a birthday dinner with the opportunity to get away from it all for 24 hours. The room we were shown to was lovely, spacious and well appointed and we spent a peaceful hour relaxing in the fluffy robes provided only to roused from our nap by a baby crying next door and the occupants trying the interconnecting door repeatedly. We have no objection to babies or children in fact we quite like them and have grown up children of our own but we felt our stay wouldn't have been as peaceful with a small baby next door. On contacting reception to explain this they immediately sent a porter up to show us three different rooms asking us to choose the one we preferred and if it was none of them they would try and find us another, we consider this to be excellent service and chose a very nice room overlooking the park.
We spent the afternoon walking round the huge well tended grounds and lake with water fountain before changing for dinner which was served efficently, attentively and discreetly.
After a good nights sleep we ate the best breakfast we have ever eaten in any hotel anywhere, the buffet choice was huge ranging from pastries to smoked salmon, honey on the comb , fruit and cereal to yogurt and cold meats while the cooked breakfast was excellently prepared.
Ashdown Park gives you a taste of old fashioned service in a relaxed and elegant setting we woudl recommend it and plan to return.

Went here with my mum and sister for a relaxing day. Arrived at 9:30, warmly greeted and shown up to lounge where we had our complimentary teas and coffees. Also, they took our lunch order for later. Then, we were showed around the facilities. The sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and pool are lovely. Good changing areas, showers etc, very peaceful and hardly anyone there.

We had lunch at 12:30 which was lovely, followed by a walk around the beautiful grounds. Our treatments (facial, manicures and pedicures) were just great. Would love to go back again, would do every day if possible!

We stayed here as a part of our tour, and were very impressed. Our room was comfy and well appointed and staff had also organised a small fridge in our room for storage of medication that I needed to keep cool. It was special to stay in such a special building with history and to be able to wander around the beautiful gardens. Both our dinner and breakfast were very tasty and all staff in general were friendly and attentive to our needs. it would have been great to have had more time to just sit and enjoy the environment and explore the Winnie the Pooh features of the area too, however our tour commitments had us moving on. A very special memory of our tour was our stay here.

Overall we had a great time at the hotel. The highlight for us were the grounds which were sumptuous in autumn (and I dare say are great in summer too), and the llama park close by was fun. We also enjoyed lounging in the various drawing rooms, and keeping warm by the fireplaces.

Our room (a Parkland-view) was spacious with high ceilings and had a nice view over the grounds. The one downside was the two separate taps in the bathroom sink (low pressure and freezing cold water and scalding water only) and a lack of space to put away toiletries, etc...

I would say also that the decor of the hotel whilst remaining well kept and classical, is somewhat in risk of looking too old fashioned, but then again that is a matter of taste.

The downside of our stay was the poor service we encountered through the front desk and when ordering drinks in the drawing rooms.

Upon check out, it took 30 minutes for the bill to be cleared up for my friends' room, delaying our departure. There was also errors on my bill. The errors on both bills (ours and friends) amounted to close to GBP 70 in favour of the hotel - such mistakes are unacceptable.

When making use of the various drawing rooms for drinks, there was terrible service because each time we had to chase the staff to provide us menus and take our orders. Staff were poorly trained - they should follow up with guests and be attentive to people coming in for a drink. It's also bad business for the hotel, as I am sure that many people just can't be bothered with the hassle. Service at the restaurant and during breakfast was better (as it was also at the bar at the spa / country club).

Finally, as my last critique, the wifi connection was dreadfully slow at the hotel - so much so that I just used my 3G connection on my mobile instead.

If they can sort out the various service issues, then the hotel would be close to perfect! It's a relatively close drive from London, and there are lots of charming places to visit nearby.

Room Tip: The Parkland-view rooms have a nice view of the hotel grounds.

We spent a night here to celebrate our anniversary after getting married here 5 years ago. The hotel is just as faultless now as it was when we wed.
The room (no16) was clean and spacious, love the molton brown bits. Cream tea, evening meal and breakfast were all delicious and the service was perfect.
We visited the country club and the pool and whirlpool are lovely, quiet and with a relaxing intimate atmosphere.
a perfect way to spend a weekend wish it could have been for longer.
