I visited Mary Green Manor for afternoon tea with 3 other friends. On arrival we had a choice to sit in the conservatory or in the garden. As it was a lovely day we chose the garden. The afternoon tea was fantastic, a nice choice of fresh sandwiches, warm scones and lovely little cakes. The waiter's kept refreshing our pots of tea and we spent a very pleasant afternoon in the garden and was not rushed at all to leave. It's a shame the waiting list was so long to go back as we would have loved another visit this summer.

Thank you very much for taking the time to post your review. We were very pleased to read that you had enjoyed your Afternoon tea. It was also a pleasure to read your comments about our staff and of course our garden! Obviously the popularity of our tea can increase lead times for a reservation but it is always worth checking for cancellations which do occur from time to time.

We look forward to seeing you again soon!

There were so many things wrong with this property it would take an essay to list them all. Upon arrival the front desk woman L. was incredibly rude and dismissive. When I inquired about their "Cream Tea" she advised me that bookings were made months in advance and that it would be impossible to accommodate us. To access our room we had to exit the hotel and walk along an outdoor corridor. It was pouring rain and there was no effort to provide us with a bellman to assist us with our luggage. The room itself could best be described as a 1950's style motel room badly in need of refurbishing. Cheap linen, flat feather pillows ( we had requested hypo-allergenic) damp carpet. Apparently this property is very popular for weddings and they were hosting 2 a day during our stay. Unfortunately the reception was held in the gardens ( they are beautiful) right outside our room and the partying continued loudly until midnight. When we asked for recommendations for dinner the staff seemed confused by this request and the fellow on call tried to explain how to find an area that might have some pubs by drawing a series of confusing lines on a piece of scrap paper. Apparently we must have been the only guests to ever require a MAP! In fairness when I complained to a different front desk person that were disappointed with the service he seemed to indicate he had never had anyone register a complaint before yet it appears that others who have reviewed this place also mentioned the poor service. My advice is to find another location.

Thank you for posting your review. We can only apologise for the welcome you received from our Receptionist. Please be assured that this issue will be addressed

100% of our garden rooms have been refurbished in the last two years. Obviously we have to be sensitive to the age and style of the main building when carrying out redecoration and have to avoid some of the more modern decor choices favoured of the larger, limited service chains.

Although it is necessary to access our rooms from exterior walk ways all paths are fully covered and weather proof. We are also that you were not offered assistance with your luggage – this service should be offered as a matter of course.

Please be advised that we do NOT host two wedding in one day.

It would appear that your experience was far from acceptable and we would like to assure you that your concerns will be followed up. We only hope that you will consider staying with us in the future to experience the levels of service we are normally able to achieve. Obviously, due to the nature of our business, we occasionally make errors. However looking at the other reviews you mention you will see that out of a total of 254 reviews we have received 146 "excellent" and 60 "very Good" scores, giving us an overall score of 82% and winning us a Trip Advisor "Certificate of Excellence" for 2013

Thoroughly enjoyed our short (two night visit) at the Mary Green Manor. Reception staff were humorous, friendly and helpful. The room service staff were also extremely good. Beds were most comfortable, room sizes great, bathrooms top quality.

Thoroughly enjoyed our short (two night visit) at the Mary Green Manor. Reception staff were humorous, friendly and helpful. The room service staff were also extremely good. Beds were most comfortable, room sizes great, bathrooms top quality.

Food which we enjoyed via room service was really very good in all respects. As older guests, it suited us very well. Garden rooms are tremendous, no stairs and very pretty situation in an established, picturesque setting.

Would recommend this hotel to anyone. Only small difficulty is that as a venue for weddings some guests get worse for wear and can make a great deal of noise throughout the night! I think the staff could keep on top of this by monitoring this and perhaps asking for some hush....... We booked through Skoosh and got a great deal. Will use this Hotel and Skoosh again.

Room Tip: Should you want two rooms alongside each other, some are actually intercommunicating via a lockable...

For our 5 year wedding anniversary my husband treated me to the six course tasting menu with accompanying wines. I cannot recommend this highly enough! The service was excellent, the food was presented like an art piece and tasted exquisite, and the wines complemented each course brilliantly. This was by far the best culinary experience i have ever had. If you have a reason to celebrate or just want an excuse for a fancy night out then i highly recommend the Tudor restaurant!

Stayed here for one night and got a very good deal on Otel.com via tripadvisor (£47 for a double including Breakfast)
Room spacious and clean if a little old fashioned and bathroom needed updating, set round a courtyard.
Had a bar meal which was OK but expensive and not a lot of choice the restaurant looked a bit stuffy and dark so chose the bar venue.
Staff all very courteous and helpful.
Location is a bit out of town so nowhere to wander around outside apart from a harvester pub opposite which may have been a better place to eat in the evening, breakfast in the restaurant was good and plentiful upgraded from continental to full breakfast for £2-50 which was well worth doing although there was a good selection of fresh fruit breads and cereals available on the continental.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. We were please to read that you enjoyed your stay with us. We will shortly be introducing a new lounge/bar menu offering a wider selection of items at very competitive prices. Brentwood High Street, with its wide selection of Restaurants, is less than a 1 mile walk from the hotel and we would recommend you take a stroll up there during your next visit for more dining options.

We hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back to our hotel in the future.

My family and I stayed for one night on the 18th August. Although a little expensive we had such a lovely time. The Hotel over all has a homely feel. From the receptionist who welcomed us to the waiters who served us. They were all very friendly and helpful and most of all the food was delicious with some very good wines on wine list. Sorry to have to say the wine prices were a little over inflated, however, we were celebrating my birthday. The waiters sang happy birthday and put a candle in my dessert. We have fond memories of Marygreen Manor Hotel and for the right price we would return again.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. We were very pleased to read that your birthday celebration was a great success! We like to offer our guests a quality selection of wines, encompassing a varied price range. We work with our suppliers to source competitively priced products but obviously some of our more exclusive wines do cost slightly more that usual.

When booking to visit us again it is always worth checking our website for special promotions on combined accommodation and dinner packages.

We look forward to welcoming you back to our hotel and restaurant in the near future.

The hotel's website shows images of an impressive conservatory where afternoon tea is served. In reality the conservatory is shabby and the roof could do with a complete clean. There were several wasps in the conservatory and there was no wow factor as you are led to believe by their website. The cakes and sandwiches are lovely, just not enough sandwiches. The experience was not what I expected and at £15 per person I would have expected to have enjoyed it more.

Thank you very much for your review. We were very sorry to read of your overall disappointment with your afternoon tea and our general facilities.

The interior areas of the conservatory were re-decorated less than 5 weeks ago and the roof is cleaned, under contact, on a monthly basis. The conservatory is comfortably furnished and looks out onto the beautiful courtyard garden. However, as you did not enjoy these surrounding we also offer teas in the comfort of our oak lounge and we would recommend that you perhaps consider this area on your next visit.

Wasps can often be a problem in the summer months and I am sorry that the presence of several wasps detracted from the overall enjoyment of your afternoon tea experience.

Our afternoon tea consists of one and a half rounds of sandwiches, 1 fruit and 1 plain scone with fresh clotted cream and preserve, 1 fresh strawberry tartlet and a selection of 3 other cakes per person. Whilst this is sufficient for the majority of our guests we are always happy to offer additional sandwiches, at no extra charge, on request. We are very sorry that this was not made clear to you at the time of your visit.

As you can see from many of our reviews our afternoon tea is extremely popular and we are confident that we offer a high quality product at a very competitive price point.

We hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back to The MArygreen Manor Hotel in the near future.
