“Great value”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 October 2013

This hotel was booked at late notice via booking.com at a rate of £79 for a double room includng breakfast. It was an overnight stay on a Saturday evening. The hotel is situated in the Essex countryside a few miles from Brentwood. I was pleasantly surprised by the general appearance of the hotel as picutes on the hotel website made it look older and a but downbeat.

We were on the ground floor which meant walking through the restaurant area with our bags which was not ideal for diners. The double room was quite small but clean with coffe facilities and a tv. The breakfast was good, not great but the service was prompt and pleasant.

In the unlikely event I need to stay in the Brentwood area again, I wouldnt hesitate to return here.

I bought deal for afternoon tea for two for myself and a friend. I'd recently had tea at another location and this was such a nice place I had hopes for yummy stuff. It's a beautiful hotel and I was impressed on arrival. The place was very busy and were given a small two person table . It did have lovely proper table cloths and our drink came shortly after we sat down. The tea however was very slow and we had to ask for it. The selection of sandwiches and cake was not great. The scones were dry and we did not eat them. The normal price for this is meant to be over £40 but I would never pay that much. I was disappointed as we left shortly after as it wasn't worth hanging on.

Thank you for taking the time to review our lovely hotel. We always encourage any feedback and comments, as without it we have no means for improvement.

I'm sorry to hear that your experience didn't live up to your expectations, our afternoon tea is normally a real treat, and people love to hang on chatting etc... This is the second time that I have visited De Rougemont Manor for afternoon tea with friends and yet again we were not disappointed. The staff are friendly and attentive and the service and refreshments throughout our visit were excellent. It is a beautiful hotel and the perfect venue to spend an afternoon with friends/family.

I booked this hotel at the last minute, cancelling a chain hotel which was too far from Brentwood. Reception and other staff were welcoming, very personable and very helpful transporting the luggage (overcoming the negative aspect of there being no lift available). Found the bar food and breakfast (all consumed in restaurant) to be freshly cooked, varied and tasty. Single room was small - perhaps a little dated but interesting because of that and shower worked well. Parking area at rear of hotel meant car was relatively secure. I felt renewed physically and mentally and would be delighted to stay again.

Dear Limklass2013,

Thank you so much for taking the time out to review our hotel. I'm so glad to hear that not only did you enjoy your stay but the staff made you feel so welcome. I am sorry about the lift, unfortunately over the night you were staying it was having maintenance work carried out on it, and is working fine now.

Hopefully it wont be long before we are welcoming you back to see us all again.

I booked this hotel for a nights stay for my boyfriends 23rd birthday. (We stayed on Sunday 22nd - Monday 23rd) when we arrived we were greeted by a very helpful lady and were shown to our room which was lovely. We had tea, coffee and biscuits waiting for us with a welcome pack. the room was spotless and I loved the fact that we had a cooling system in there (not that we needed it as temp was perfect) not many hotels do this! Toiletries were in a nice display in the bathroom with large white fluffy towels. we also received a free breakfast the morning of our departure which was delicious either continental or a Full English couldn't have asked for more and staff were very friendly. I will definitely be back :)

This is not a chain hotel, and its imperfections give it character. The Manor seems to hail from the late 19th century, with photos on the walls from the period. The front half with dining area and bedrooms above is original, whilst there is a modern extension to the rear.

The bar area was comfortable, and had a number of guests in who were regulars. It made for a relaxing atmosphere. The restaurant menu looked okay, but I didn't try it.

I had a single bedroom, and it was very small in size (bed pushed up against one wall), and was also overlooking the road, so there was road noise.

The sink in the bathroom had a rubber plug to replace the missing integral plug. Problem was, it was much bigger than the sink hole so the water would stay in the sink.

The breakfast seemed good, however nobody chose to serve me (big conference group on), and as I was short on time I didn't have the patience to wait so I had juice and cereal only.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms overlooking road. Single rooms are small.

Had a really nice stay at the De Rouegmont, room was small but suited purpose, staff were friendly and welcoming. However spoilt by the fact that although the wedding elsewhere was fantastic, all the family of the groom stayed at the De Rougemont and enjoyed breakfast together where cards and presents were given to the newlyweds. Card went missing during breakfast obviously containing money, hotel accept no responsibility, we know we don't have it, so draw our own conclusions.! Someone there needed it more than the newlyweds. Hope they can live with the consequences of their actions, needless to say we won't be staying there again!

Room Tip: Do not have breakfast if you value your belongings!

Dear 34Lindsay,

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. I’m so glad to hear that you had a really nice stay with us.

From my understanding of the single ‘Missing Card’ matter, your party were dining for breakfast amongst the other 150 plus guests that had also stayed over that night. You claim the card (possibly containing money) may have been taken from the table whilst unattended, maybe when you returned to your bedroom to get ready for check out.

Upon checking out and realising you hadn’t got the card, you guessed you may have left it on the breakfast table. As the card wasn’t on the table your whole family then went to search the room? Despite the fact that no staff members had seen the card, they still continued into a full search, including the whole ground floor public areas, and two staff members even emptied out the bins. If you felt so strongly that the card went missing from the table why did you and your family partake in such an in-depth search of your bedroom?

I am shocked that in your review, that you are accusing staff members who were nothing but helpful in trying to locate the ‘missing’ card. In your own words all our staff are extremely friendly and welcoming; the majority of the staff have been with us for many years now, and are all very trustworthy & honest employees, and as such nothing of this nature has ever occurred before.
I do understand your frustration over the missing card, however I can reassure you that it had nothing to do with any hotel staff, however as we are open to the general public I cannot say the same about all the other attending guests.

If you would like to discuss this matter further please do not hesitate to personally contact me, at any time that suits you.

Kind Regards
Sam Banks
