This was a large restaurant which we visited on a Friday lunchtime. Considering the size of the restaurant the service was excellent. This was not fine dining but food enjoyable with large portions. Good choice with even more options via specials board.

We decided on a 'staycation' this year, visiting friends and family around the country. The Lion Inn was recommended for a 2 night stay by friends. We decided to splash out and go for the superior deluxe room option and were certainly not disappointed. Our room was large, beautifully decorated and furnished. The bed linen was excellent quality and we had a down duvet. The sleep quality was excellent despite being quite close to a very busy motorway. Our room had a small balcony which looked over the very well maintained garden. Breakfast on both mornings was excellent. There was a good choice of fresh fruit and the home-made Grenola was superb. We didn't eat in the restaurant but had a drink in the bar. The staff throughout were friendly, professional and very well trained. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay and would definately recommend The Lion Inn

Situated close to Chelmsford, with easy access to the A12 for onward travel to Colchester, Ipswich & the coast it is an ideal place to stay for visitors to the area.
We received a warm welcome from Clive, who showed us to our room. The room was quite spacious, tastefully decorated and furnished, and spotlessly clean. Excellent en-suite with bath and separate shower cubicle. Small balcony for the days days when the weather is suitable, looking over farmland.
The hotel has a large dining area which obviously has a good reputation locally and was very busy, both at lunch times and evening. Not everybody would be happy with having to order food at the bar but it worked very well and to our mind added to the relaxed atmosphere of the place. They had an extensive menu, plus plenty of 'specials' and the food was very good quality and nicely presented. Plenty of staff around to deal with your requirements.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would not have any hesitation in staying at The Lion if we visit the area again.

I am really picky with both hotels and restaurants so for me to give 5 stars means it really was excellent.

A fantastic boutique hotel which we stayed in for one night pre graduation ceremony. I was in a double room which was compact but very well decorated. It had a mini corner balcony for those that smoke. Although right near a main road, you could not hear the traffic. Lovely bath/ shower. Clean and newly decorated. If a had any minor complaints, the mattress was a tad soft for my liking and there was no hot chocolate or biscuits on the tea tray (I don't drink tea or coffee). What was supplied teas & coffee wise was high quality.

My parents stayed in the honeymoon suite which was a larger room with a bath and separate shower, again very nicely decorated. They thought it was great.

We had dinner in the restaurant which was packed for Tuesday night. Great wine, great food, casual dining atmosphere.

Breakfast was lovely, full range of continental and cooked. Mum & dad said the cooked breakfast was good. I asked for a hot chocolate at breakfast and they were happy to oblige. It was a shame we had to rush off so early the next morning.

I would definitely stay there again.

We have been looking further afield recently for good options for Sunday lunchtimes and the Lion Inn is now on our options list in future.

The Lion Inn is just on the outskirts of Boreham and was very easy to find. There is a lot of onsite parking but considering the size of the place it is needed. We took note of other comments to arrive early as it was a Sunday and there is a no booking policy. The property has been extended and renovated to a very high standard.

We were greeted and shown to a table in the conservatory area, this was thankfully cooler and quieter than the main restaurant. The waitress was very attentive and explained the ordering system. You fill in your starters and mains on the pad provided and take this to the ordering counter. Drinks and desserts are ordered from the waitress.

The food options were pretty good but as per a previous review I had a single "choice" for starters an main as I am vegetarian. There was a specials board which had several fish options in addition to the menu, maybe the addition of another veggie option could be accomodated. The food was well cooked and presented and the portion sizes were "healthy" so much so that we had to share a pudding.

We both really enjoyed the experience and will be back in the future.

Thanks for your review.

We are pleased you enjoyed your visit and that you will come back to us. When you do, please do look at our soups as a veggie option, one is always vegetarian. We do also have a few items which can be delivered as vegetarian by omitting the meat/fish element - please ask on your next visit for advice on this.

If you're in the area and don't mind waiting then this is ok. But if you want something special then you need to go elsewhere. The menu does need overhauling and not brilliant for vegetarians. However the service and food is good if not a bit predictable.

Room Tip: I cannot give a comment on accommodation as I have not stayed here

Thanks for your review.

Your positive comments are much appreciated.

With regard to our menu, providing customers variety of choice whilst at the same time ensuring favourites are available is a fine line.

As you have stated we do get very busy, we hope, because we do get things right for the majority of the time. I would always urge you to let a member of staff know if your food is not as you would expect - we prefer to attempt to put things right at the time whenever we can.
