Very nice room. Plenty of lounge space, comfy bed and lovely breakfast.
Thought it a little expensive for a pub but overall a plesant stay.
No car park so pay and display across the road which is only £3.50 for 24 hours

A lovely pub with fire on, they give you blanket if you want to sit out in the garden and it;s a bit cold. nice touch, love it. it was snowing today, went there to read sunday papers. had some breaded whitebait - it was really good and crispy. the staff are friendly. the beam makes the pub looks "country like" pub despite being next to the riverside leisure centre. oh yes, it's easy you can either park at riverside or park across the road near staples (free for 2 hours). Totally recommend this pub!!

We stay here when visiting a family member who lives locally. It is charming, Very old and close to the town centre. There are just 5 rooms. The floors are sloping, some of the roof heights are very low, some rooms do not have full standing height in the shower. The rooms are clean, there are tea and coffee making facilities, and sometimes it is a little noisy due to creaking floorboards. I would say this Inn is quirky. The pub is good and the food is fine. The staff very friendly.

Room Tip: Room 5 is on the top floor so you do not have the creaking floorboard noise of other guests going t...

Went to riverside inn for Christmas meal with work. Twenty of us so a reasonable number.

We were sat opposite bar so not a great start! Drinks a little pricey.

Sat and waited for food which came after about 15 to 20 mins. I had soup which looked like it had been sitting around waiting as it was starting to solidify. Nice taste and hot but almost set in bowl.

Next turkey main course which on the whole was ok apart from undercooked Sprouts and parsnips. Complained to waitress who asked if we'd like some more and the bought a bowl of hot but again undercooked sprouts!!! Could not get fork into sprouts that bad.

Pudding was choc and orange bread pudding which tasted nice but was Luke warm.

Overall not a great meal, staff were ok but not great. Pricey drinks and not a great seating location considering the amount we were paying.

Don't think next Christmas Santa will be visiting The Riverside Inn!!!

I stayed at the Riverside Inn 3 or 4 nights a week on business over a period of about 4 months. The staff were always friendly and helpful, the bar did a really good pint of Guinness too. Food was slightly pricey but generally good. The building is a converted watermill which means that both the pub and rooms are full of character. The only downside to staying here is the quality of the cleaning company they use (not particularly thorough and left my room unlocked on two occasions). Very good central Chelmsford location.

I enjoyed a nice lunch here one weekday. I had a prawn & crayfish sandwich & it was bursting with filling. Also had a side of chips and the meal was reasonably priced. It's a well presented pub & close to town centre. I'd go back

The hotel is an appendix to a pub/restaurant. The public area is very traditional and old, but very charming and up to date. The terrace is wonderfully surrounded by two rivers.

The room was right under the roof and one can see that the floors have been built after the building having been a mill, i.e. windows are not on normal hight (mine was just under the roof). The bathtub was right under the roof, thus one can not stand in it to shower. Still, evertyhing was very clean and very charming.

Room Tip: One should ask for a room with a propper shower.
