Premier Inn Chelmsford (Springfield) Hotel

Reviewed 14 November 2012

Stayed recently at this hotel, located conveniently out of town on the Springfield service area. I have stayed here before but this time had a road facing out the rear of the hotel - onto the dual carriageway and main rail line.
Although the windows have secondary double glazing road & rail noise is quite loud and continuous. Being a seasoned traveller I had earplugs and actually had a very good night's sleep, without them I'm sure I would have been bleary eyed in the morning.
Cannot fault the warm service I was given by the staff, thank you all.
Plenty of free parking on site and choice of eating in the hotel or at nearby locations (MacDonald's or nearby pub). I ate in the hotel restaurant on my first night, great value meal of good quality. On the second night I wandered across to the Grange pub/restaurant (5 minutes walk and next to the Premier Inn, Boreham)
Despite my comments about the noise, I do recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

Room Tip: Choose a room facing the car park, the rear rooms have road/rail noise

Typical premier inn, good location, clean and tidy, friendly staff and secure car park.
We had a family party locally so ideal location, McDonalds next door open 24h!, great for a feast when you've been out on the pop all night!
Don't use the taxi from reception, very very expensive, use one from Chelmsford .all in all great stay

Stayed for one night whilst visiting family. Really was excellent value for money from the size of room, comfortable bed, large towels, wi fi and good breakfast and attitude of staff. We were really surprised. They really have it right.

We stayed here on Sunday 28th October. We arrived over an hour early and the staff on reception were very accomodating to us. The gave us a double room on the 2nd floor. One of the nicest rooms we have ever seen in a Premier Inn. Ok it was a bit noisy from the lorries but not enough to disturb a great nights sleep. The breakfast staff were brilliant we have never stayed for breakfast before but did here and it was fantastic they could not do enough for us. Well Done Premier Inn and Sandy and all her staff. Will definately be back if ever in the area again.

Room Tip: Our room was 231 on the 2nd floor. Absolutely gorgeous.

Stayed here for just one night while visiting friends, hotel room clean and comfortable, heard a lot of reviews of bad noise throughout night as lorry park next door and 24hr McDonald's but this wasn't too bad considering! Bathroom smelt quite damp and had a issue with the bedroom being quite hot and thermostat didn't seem to work too well, also the air con when turned on seemed non existent but otherwise a good room. Couldn't fault the staff at all they were brilliant and went above and beyond there duties to help us. Location not too bad, just a short 10 minute drive to town. Overall a good stay.

Agree with most reviews regarding the staff and location of this hotel. My gripe is not against this hotel specifically, but Premier Inn's Wi-Fi facility generally. Allowing a free half hour is a bit stingy, bearing in mind that many hotels provide unlimited Wi-Fi as a complementary facility. Premier Inn play up their free half hour as a real benefit to guests where in reality it's not. Charging for Wi-Fi beyond the free half hour is a bit like a low-cost airline charging for services which in reality cost them nothing to provide - a lazy way of raising a few quid from a captive audience. It's a bit like charging guests for watching television in their rooms. I'm surprised they haven't though of that one!
