“Comfortable and friendly but you may need earplugs”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 February 2014

We booked a Saturday night stay for a wedding reception locally. As we didn't return till late (and after a few drinks) the noise from the bar wasn't a problem for us but be warned that it can get noisy.
The room itself was spacious and clean. It had the normal facilities with free view TV, hairdryer, tea & coffee facilities. Shower over a bath but the temperature was a little tricky to get right.
The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was freshly cooked full English and very nice too.
There is limited parking at the rear of the hotel through a narrow passageway.
Food can be found nearby at the "Town Crier" and is reasonable pub food. There are lots of other restaurants in town and an Asda nearby.
Couldn't connect to their wi-fi though had a signal but not concerned enough to go and ask for a new password.
There is no lift and the rooms are all upstairs so bring light luggage!
Overall this is a no-frills hotel but decent value for money. Just beware the stairs and the noise at weekends.

Room Tip: There is a lot of noise from the bar at weekends, ask for rooms at the back and the second floor.

We needed a hotel for our band to stay over after a gig in Hockley - we pre-booked this and didn't really know what to expect with only 2 stars (probably because there is a noisy nightclub downstairs at weekend but this didnt bother us as we never got in until the club was almost closing)- what we found was a very clean, quite well-presented hotel with comfy beds, tea & coffee, TV, Hair dryer, staff always available and an excellent breakfast bar the next morning with a full english available which was very good. What a surprise for only 2 stars!!! will definitely stay there again. What do you want for your money?

Room Tip: first floor rooms are to be avoided on saturdays because of the club noise from downstairs - these w...

Stayed here on a Saturday night and knew that live music would be played till late. Had a room on the 2nd floor directly above the bar but heard very little noise.
The room was spacious, tidy and clean. Normal facilities available in the room, tv, tea/coffee, reasonable bathroom with shower.
The staff were friendly and attentive.
Breakfast, freshly cooked full English, was piping hot
Parking has changed recently to a free car park (outside the police station) 50 yards away from hotel.
My only complaint would have to be that the room door had no secondary security to lock from the inside.

I don't recognise the room I was in from the photos - twin beds with plastic covers on the mattresses, drunken men on the landing outside my door during the night, no lift. Only way it would be acceptable was if you were as drunk as the clientèle. I was there for work so would never stay again.

Lets start by saying this is a 2 star hotel and I never watch hotel inspector.
I stayed at this hotel with my husband as we had a Christmas party to attend in a nearby golf and country club. the hotel itself was situated on a pedestrian area so no noise from passing vehs, there was only 3 spaces for parking and it was a through car park and not very big so I was a bit worried about leaving the car there, but there is a bigger car park behind the shops that are situated in front of the hotel which was a long stay car park and free.
We got there at 17.30hrs and the reception was shut but a notice directed you to the pub area so a member of bar staff can help you check in, payment was up front (which didn't bother me) and our room was on the top floor but be warned if you have mobility issues there is no lift.
the décor for the reception and public areas is a bit shabby but then I am not sleeping in the hallways, when I entered my room i noticed a 4 poster bed with lace around it in the middle of the room the walls where a natural colour and the furnishings were a pine dressing table, dresser, side tables a low backed leather chair and leather backed chair at the dressing table, there was also tea and coffee facilities which was very welcome and a hair dryer that you see in a lot of hotels abroad. the TV was flat screen and about 19inch screen (same size as at home in the bedroom) the carpet was very dated some kind of green pattern on it. the bathroom was very clean and was a white suite the shower didn't work very well as you controlled it from the taps so not a lot of water pressure by the time it got to the shower head, but it got you wet and helps take the soap off. the towels where white fluffy ones and the hanging over the radiator which made them lovely and warm on a cold night/day.
you are given 2 keys one for your room and the other for the front door as when the bar closes the doors are locked.
breakfast is served from 07.00-09.00 weekdays and over the weekend it is until 10.00hrs check out is 11.00hrs. we didn't get back until early hrs of the morning so decided not to get up so early for breakfast and stayed in bed longer (probably a good thing I was feel a little delicate after the night before. lol) so I am unable to give a verdict on this.
check out was easy just gave the key to the lady at the desk. but because there is not much room in the car park and the bins from the shops next door are also stored in the car park it was not easy manoeuvring out of the parking space.
all in all a comfy bed with private facilities and some home comforts for the price, I don't know what people want.

What can one say after a night at the only hotel in South Woodham Ferrers, Essex other than, thank god I was at a party and thank god for alcohol.
OK, no I wasn't expecting the Ritz and yes it was cheap, though not cheerful. Yes too you get what you pay for but with no competition, what can you expect. 70's brown coloured toilet suite, accompanied with 70's patterned carpet and I mean recently patterned by way of stains and rounded off with a TV with a screen not much bigger than my iPhone!
The residents bar is the dance floor, the reception is the dance floor, the dining room is the dance floor and the views are..................
However, I do have to say that the staff were all very friendly and polite, yes even the bouncers who stopped you taking your drink onto the front terrace after 9:00pm.
True friends would have told me in advance about the Oakland being on TVs hotel inspector, but hey, it's an experience. No harm done!

We booked in here for a Saturday night stay and after reading some of the reviews was a little concerned about our stay. I had nothing to worry about! The rooms were clean and very comfortable, the staff were efficient and friendly and breakfast was delicious.

If you are looking for somewhere local at a reasonable price then look no further.
