Just been reading some of the bad comments, well just returned from staying bank holiday, yes the bathrom is tiny but it meets the needs. The bed was comfortable rooms could do with a refurb but ok. The staff were very helpful and friendly, breakfast brilliant and the bar drinks very reasonable. This is not a 3 or 4 star hotel it is a seaside B & B at a reasonable price and location couldnt be closer to all amenities. Parking: we parked outside hotel 1st night then went out for the day to colchester zoo Brilliant, when we got back had to park in the car park opposite hotel at no charge, but must say you are staying in hotel. We would/will be back again.

Room Tip: rooms 9 10 11 12 quiet rooms

First the negatives, the room was very small, the bathroom tiny, had to leave door open whilst using hand basin. The wardrobe rickety and the drawers hadn't been cleaned. Hotel is next to bar and nightclub. Hot night so left window open slightly - on the Friday night the noise continuous, mainly unruly leaving the club in batches from midnight to 4am when the seagulls tookover! Not much sleep.

However, the bed itself had clean linen and was comfortable .The towels were also clean although ageing. All the people met were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast simple, cereal or yoghourt and full English but well cooked and staff again very friendly. Bar and lounge area ok - reasonable prices, again friendly. Parking limited but can arrange free overnight parking opposite so no real problem.

Well situated just off seafront and pier - so walking distance most attractions.
The adjacent Italian restaurant (different ownership I think) is a bit pricey but truly excellent cooking - second vist and main reason we booked the Langtry.

Finally price - for situation and month (August) the shortcoming are recognised in the low price.

So for a cheap place to stay next to a great restaurant it is ok - but bring some earphones if you want to sleep with window open and accept room limitaions. Bit of a shame as for pleasant people's sake would like to be more positive.

Finally - when we got home we had a call to advise my wife had left her I-Pod behind - so add honest to friendly people (arranged for my son who lives nearby to collect).

Room Tip: At back adjacent to restaurant on ground floor? Not a front, top floor next to nightclub!

I booked this hotel thinking its location next to the seafront would be great. When I arrived I was given my key and a quick run down of when breakfast is and when to check out etc. After a 4 hour drive I couldn't take the info in - so had to re-check later and write it down!
The bedding was clean, but the room was run down, exposed pipes, holes in the door, mould in the corners of the shower and the carpet corners had piles of dust. I wish I had spent an extra £10 a night and booked at a travel inn - although it was not as close to the seafront. The 'free parking' was pot luck. If you could get a space on the front of the property (the supposed car park) you were lucky. The only positive was that the staff were polite and friendly. Will not stay again!!

Room Tip: Don't bother!!

We travelled from California for a special meeting with long-time friends and stayed at this hotel. We were shocked at how badly the place is run down, the rooms were tiny, and the "bathrooms" were ridiculously small and dirty around the shower frames and the floors. No washcloths or tissues were provided, which we expect. The wind blew through the windows and made the ceiling panel rattle most nights, very disturbing. The drawers in the furniture were not on runners and literally dropped out of their spaces, so you had to lift the whole drawer out and put it on the floor or the bed when you wanted to get something. The rooms were dirty, dusty, and the walls badly needed repainting. We had to move the wardrobe in order to get a plug into the wall socket! The bedskirts were dragging on the floor and we had to lift up the mattress to fit them on properly, this is just laziness. Noise from outside was every night, most of the night because of the local pubs and other places of entertainment. In general, we found Clacton to be miserable, depressing, and lacked customer service from every facility, i.e., shops, restaurants. We would never recommend this hotel to even our worst enemy. Very stressful week.

Run down place located next door to a club. Doors to rooms were broken, one couple couldn't leave their room cos the handle came off. shower had the loo butted up next to it and the basin had to be in the bedroom due to lack of space. Breakfast had little choice. Only positive is close to beach

We travelled to Clacton for a weekend away with friends. The staff were lovely and very helpful but the rooms were something quite different. Beds were comfortable but the rest of the room needs updating to a higher standard. I have never been in such a small bathroom, you couldn't get dressed and undressed as its physically impossible and needs a deep clean.

The best thing about our stay was the breakfast, the staff even catered for my husband who is coeliac and had gone out of their way to buy gluten free bread and sausages, 5 star to the staff and breakfast but the hotel is at most a 2 star

At first sight it look nice hotel, breakfast really good, friendly staff, but room was horrible, small showers, furniture nearly broken, and my room was in the attic i had small baby and at room was so hot and no air conditioning, all nights without sleep and my baby cannot sleep in that room.in morning we did ask for air conditioner thei did given but it was 2small. Rooms need renovations. And window was put on chain, cant open for fresh air.

Room Tip: Ask if ur room not in the attic, too hot at summer.
