“Lovely seaside break”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 November 2013

Really friendly staff
Beautifully clean
Warm and comfortable
Food absolutely delicious
Exceptionally good value
Only downside for non-smokers was that it smelt a bit smoky but otherwise I really can't fault anything.

Dear Anna. Thank you for your 5* review on The Laxfield Hotel. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us and enjoyed your meal in the restaurant. The hotel does have a no smoking policy in place, however some guests do try and break our rules. We are now issuing fines which will help in preventing this. We are sorry you had to experience this. We are glad you enjoyed your time with us and we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future. Kind Regards, Louise

A short notice trip meant a quick booking and then worry that we had done the right thing with our 1 year old in tow. We needn't have worried, it was fine. The hotels new management took over a few months ago and are in the process of enhancing the interior and re-building the business. And what a great job they are doing. The areas they have improved looked great, they couldn't do enough to make our stay the best it could be, right from carrying all our luggage up to our room on arrival. Everyone was friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble for our daughter. Food was included so we didn't expect much but it was top quality, a great bonus. Our friends came and ate with us on the Sunday and we had a fantastic restaurant quality Sunday lunch, they were impressed and said they would recommend it too. Some of the interior is still a bit dated but it has a fabulous nostalgic air to it and because its very clean it's no big deal until they have it sorted. There are no en-suites which is a shame and normally this would have been a no-no for us but we really didn't mind because the whole package was just such good value. We had a great weekend and think you would find it very hard to find better value or service in Clacton. Great location next to the sea and pier, plus a sea view from our window, great food and fun with friends. Perfect, our thanks to all the staff xxx

Location excellent with sea views and a 5 minute walk to the town. The friendliness of the staff was second to none even to the point of Shane offering me the use of his raincoat. Breakfast was standard full English with cereals etc but the dinner was exceptionally good. I had the pork, and again, was probably one of the tastiest meals I've had. My partner is vegetarian so they made a special effort with the Vegetarian Lasagne and Breakfast. Not only would we pick this hotel again if staying in Clacton , we will probably go to Clacton again just so that we can stay in the hotel. It was just like going to stay with old friends. Thank you so much Shane Louise and all the team.

Room Tip: All rooms being decorated Rooms at the front have sea views.

Loved the location and can see that the hotel is having a good revamp. The down stairs is very nice and think most rooms have been done too. We had top room which was clean and gave us lovely sea view.
Had good breakfast each morning and an evening meal which was excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful.
We want to return in summer as the gardens on sea front must be stunning.

Room Tip: ask for seaview

Stayed in a twin room, which was very clean and comfortable. Very helpful and friendly staff, asked for breakfast to be served an hour early and they agreed without hesitation (what service).
Excellent breakfast and had an evening meal. Would definitely stay there again. Thank you to all the staff for making my stay the best it could be.
