Stayed at the hotel as was attending a wedding in Epping (Gaynes Park) hotel literally does what it says on the tin, cheap and effective after coming in after too much Champagne and Red Wine....

Rooms were old fashioned yet comfortable, bathrooms need updating (as does the rest of the hotel) but it is clean.

we went to visit this hotel this weekend. It was booked by another member of my family but from the moment we arrived it was horrible. I had to stand at the desk for about 15 minutes before anyone came to book me in having been walked past twice. When we finally got our key we went to find our room only to discover that the staircase was being painted which made walking up the stairs difficult (even more so for me as i have a problem walking). When we reached the top of the stairs there was a large pile of dirty washing (this was after 2pm when all the cleaning should be done. Then we went downstairs to wait for the rest of our party. when they arrived and tried to book in, by which time it was just gone three, one of the rooms was still not ready. We asked about the garden and play area (one of the reasons we booked it as we have a young nephew) we were told that it was not open and he then had no where to run around. We went to seat on the grass by the carpark for lunch. We then went in to the lounge and decided we would finish our lunch off with a cake. We looked at the menu and decided on afternoon tea (tea and scones) and when we went to order it we were told that they needed 24 hours notice for this which i think is silly as most people do not stay for more than one night, no where on the menu did it mention this at all. The room was comfortable but no air conditioning and no way to open the larger window to get some air. The fitting were askew. The following morning we came down for breakfast and once again was let down. First of all they was hardly an hot food about and they were asked 3 or 4 times by different people for the food and told each time about 5 minutes even though it has been 10 already. The tea tasted like washing up liquid, considering that this breakfast cost us nearly 9 pound it was not worth the money. I found the staff very unhelpful and ignored us a lot of the time.
Would never visit again and have already told my family and friends never to boo in there.

Room Tip: only tip is don't go

We booked this hotel via the Classic Britain web site as we had booked through them before and the hotels were always a good standard. We now wished we had checked the reviews before we booked.
The first thing you notice on arrival is the horrible musty smell in reception. After checking in we walked down a corridor that would not look out of place in the worst student accommodation halls you could think of. The room we stayed in was ok, the carpet was a little marked but the room was very hot. There was no air-con or fans so we opened the windows as much as we could but this then let in the traffic noise from the main road outside. We went to the bar for a drink which had nobody there so we asked the receptionist who couldn't find anyone either so tried to pour some drinks herself not very successfully (whatever you do don't lean on the bar you will stick to it). While we sat with our drinks we couldn't help but notice the layers of dust on the window blinds. The only saving grace was the evening meal, we opted for the Indian menu as the people already eating had the English food which looked very basic & bland. The waitresses were very helpful and worked very hard and that is about the only positive point about this hotel.

Room Tip: Stay at another hotel

There was nothing traditional about the tea my friend and I received at the Bell Hotel. We booked it as a treat and ended up chasing the one member of staff allocated to hospitality that day for hot water, jam, milk etc making it a stressful rather than relaxing experience it should have been.

I stopped here for four nights at the end of July/Start August. This is my third stay here, all three business stops. Reception is very quick and efficient and within a couple of minutes I was in my room. The rooms are clean and tidy and well stocked with soaps/hot drink facilities. Room service is very good (try the Pizzas). No way would I entertain the idea of stopping here other than business because of the "sterile" feel to the place and the lack of care taken maintaining the grounds. But as I say, for business, it's ok

The Hotel was close to Epping Town. On arrival the room looked cleaned and was tidy. After been in the hotel room for 5 mintues, there was cobwebs on the curtains with spiders in. The net only covered a section of the window and dirty.

Under the bed had not been hoovered with what looked like months as the dust was shockling bad.

Other then that it was ok and the bed was comfy.
