“A pleasant lunch and interesting memorabilia”
Reviewed 15 June 2013

We had a pleasant Saturday lunch in the tranquil restaurant area of The Cricketers, and enjoyed chatting to the publican about his interesting experiences in the licensing trade.

We were seated at a corner table near the original bread oven (apparently this part of the restaurant is the former bakery where the local huffer bread was baked, and which can still be bought in nearby Great Dunmow.) My Wife particularly enjoyed the ‘Knicker Blocker Glory’ which brought back memories of her childhood.

In one of the bars is a gleaming 1960s scooter which the publican still rides, and behind which are numerous photos of ‘mods’, and ‘Only Fools and Horses’ and the ‘Nags Head’ which he had run at the time of filming the TV series.

The Cricketers is situated on the B184 just north of Great Dunmow.

“nice place to stop”
Reviewed 28 May 2013

Out riding in Essex I opted to stop off in Great Dunmow. The Cricketers is on the main road through the village and so is hard to miss. It has a large carpark with two areas for sitting outside and enjoy a sunny afternoon. We unfortunately missed the afternoon food but the owner politely offered to see what he could get for us. The owner has his Lambretta inside one of the rooms and will happily talk bikes, scooters and being a mod with you.

Apparently a local Triumph club meets here so it's definitely bike friendly for all you Essex bikers.
