We only stayed for the one night to go to a family get together, but the Devonshire was ideal for this. The beds were huge, a lovely shower and spacious room. The velux had a black out blind and I slept all night without hearing a thing. Breakfast was plentiful and service very prompt.

This was our third visit to the Devonshire and it definitely won't be the last.
Having enjoyed staying in standard rooms before, we were even more impressed by the "accessible" room we had booked this time. Having just had a hip replacement I really appreciated the "wet room" shower and hand rails in the bathroom.
Breakfast was lovely as usual and parking is good.
The owner and his family/staff are always happy to help.
Shops and Underground/Railway stations are only a few minutes walk away.

I stayed at the Devonshire Hotel for three nights in April for work. I stay in a lot of hotels throughout the year, mostly in the big chains, and this hotel is the best I have stayed in for a long while. The executive double room I had was modest in size, but well equipped, tastefully decorated, had an immaculate and nicely designed en-suite bathroom, and a very comfortable bed. The hotel has been very nicely updated and is kept exceptionally clean. The staff are helpful, accommodating any requests very quickly. As it's a small hotel, breakfast is cooked to order - perfect. The only drawback for some people will be lack of restaurant/evening meals, but there is a large number of good and varied restaurants within a couple of minutes walk, so I didn't find this a problem. If you like small, friendly, family run hotels then this is a great place to stay.

I have just stayed at the Devonshire for the very first time.

It was excellent in every sense, clean, friendly, everything about this smart little Hotel is first class.

The staff are very helpful, the location to the town is perfect, the food is healthy, honest and home cooked. Take note Premier Inns and such people !!!!

Excellent value for money and managed by an Owner who actually cares and takes pride.

Room Tip: Just make sure you book in advance, because I think this place will be booked up !

Stayed one night here with my partner, we had room 3.

PROS
-Good parking facilities
- Room was a good size
- Throughout the hotel was immaculate
- Within walking distance to the town
-Overall fine for a short stay

CONS
- Very noisy during the night, could hear what the room next door were watching on TV! The door bell on the front door is also a nuisance during the night.
- No hair dryer in our room, even though it was listed as a facility on their website
- We needed to check out for 9am, understandably this was during breakfast service however we were left for ten minutes (having rang the service bell twice) before anyone came to assist.

I think if they considered sound proofing rooms and perhaps placed a carpet on the wooden floor in the communal hallway this may improve the sleep quality available on the ground floor. Had we been in a room on the second floor we may have had a lovely nights sleep! It is fine for a stopover hotels and when we came across the staff they did seem friendly.

Room Tip: Avoid the first floor!

We had an overnight stay, room 9 small but immaculate, the shower room was very clean and the shower a joy to use, pleasant staff a lovely breakfast with a great quality sausage, in fact quality is a word I'd associate with this hotel throughout from the fixtures to the doors, if I had to find one thing to criticise a little more thought into make up application and a full length wall mirror would make a full house.

My partner stays in this hotel when on business in Hornchurch and would thoroughly recommend it. It is located within easy walking distance of the Town. The staff are genuinely welcoming, it is clean, well presented and there is plenty of choice for breakfast which is of the highest quality. Parking is excellent and secure.
