We have just spent 4 nights at The Bell whilst visiting nearby family and could not have wished for a better experience.
The staff were all friendly and attentive and made us feel completely at home.
The Sunday lunch for ourselves and family was of a very high quality and a high chair for the baby was no problem as was the heating of the lunch for her which had been brought with us.
The complimentary bread and olives were appreciated too !
We stayed in room 8 .
The bed was wide and exceptionally comfortable. It was a quiet and relaxing room, tastefully decorated with a great power shower in the en suite.
The continental breakfast included in the room rate was also 1st class with home made yoghurts, fresh fruit, croissants and fresh juices as well as toast and cereal.
For the traditionalists, various cooked options were available at an extra cost which all looked imaginative and beautifully prepared.
We would heartily recommend The Bell to anyone who is visiting the area.Thankyou for making our stay so enjoyable !

Stayed here for 3 weeks had some awesome room loads of space. Friendly staff happy to help with anything. The restaurant is the best in Essex with great fresh food and very helpful staff. No request was too much they were very knowable about the food and the products within.

Looking forward to my next stay

Room Tip: High House is the best part to stay in.

I had been nominated to organise a retirement party for 14 teachers- not an easy task since teachers en masse can be quite a challenge! The choice of venue was easy to agree on as the reputation of The Bell was well known as being excellent amongst those who had been invited. The evening was enjoyed by all, excellent food and wine, a lovely relaxing atmosphere and impeccable service. From the very beginning of the evening, Shaun was a discreet presence and went out of his way to make our dining experience as relaxed as possible. The ordering of food was efficiently executed and was delivered to the table without there being a need to interrupt conversations by asking who had ordered what. 10 out of 10 Shaun for your efficiency and many thanks for making our evening so relaxed and hassle free.

We were advised that the Bell Inn was one of the best pubs for food in Essex - we have been twice - the first time to see if was good enough for our friend who was going to be 80 - it was as good as we had heard., We booked for the 80th Birthday and we all had a wonderful time.
Food was excellent and the wine very good and at good prices. The service was great.
We have told other friends and they went there yesterday - they were also very pleased.
We will go again soon. We did not stay in the hotel because we only live about 30 mins away.

Situated in a picturesque little country village. Oldy worldy pub/hotel with masses of hanging baskets and pub garden. An oasis within a surrounding built up area. Excellent accommodating staff. Great for dog owners. There is a field to run your dog at the back of the hotel owned by hotel. We were allowed to take our well behaved dog into the breakfast room. The hotel boasted a third year Best Pub Grub award and it was certainly good food and not necessarily usual pub fare. Rooms very clean and modern. Well worth a visit.

Room Tip: Some rooms ground level. We were at the back near the field and no noise.

My Husband and I have visited The Bell many times over the past thirty years but had never stayed in any of the rooms before, so decided to give it a try over the Feast and Fayre weekend.
We had the 'Anne Boleyn' room which was clean and tidy, if a little tired.

However, the point to note on this review, is the fact that The Bell is an old inn, so although we expected some noise, creaking floors, bar noise, etc, what we got was far more than we'd bargained for.

Let me just add, the walls are wafer thin, so when a large party arrived in the adjoining room at around 12am, we were privvy to their cackling, singing, shouting and partying (to include a rendition of 'Knees Up Mother Brown'), that continued unabated until gone 5am. In addition to that, the adjoining door (which we hadn't checked) was unlocked and they tried on two occasions to gain entry to our room, believing it to be a short cut to the bar. Needless to say, our sleep was very disturbed so we decided to go home and checked out at 7am, telling the Receptionist why. She apologised and said the Manager would be in touch.
All I asked, (despite our evening being ruined), was assurances that the adjoining door would be checked and locked for future guests, but despite that - and a follow up email, no one has bothered to contact me or indeed respond to my email, which I believe speaks volumes..
If you stay in this rooml: ensure the adjoining door is locked, before going to bed/ or out! Oh, and take an industrial set of earplugs, just in case the party from Hell re-visit.

We choose the rooms in hill house part off the hotel as they looked more contempary. Spacious room and great bathroom. Dinner was excellent. The key success to this place is its staff who are attentive and friendly. There is an understated luxury here with great prices.
