“Room with a view!”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

Two nights spent here on business, friendly staff who can't do enough to meet your needs. The view from my balcony overlooking the Thames estuary was amazing despite the fun fair. Walking distance from station. Pleasant gym. Very grand Victorian style hotel. Highly recommended for business or pleasure.

I booked a room for three as we were going to my brother in laws wedding in Southend On Sea.
We got to the hotel where we were given our keys to our room. It was facing the sea, although not the Med or anything like that we were surprised how good the view was. The room had a King size bed and a double sofa bed, an armchair, coffee table and a bathroom. All of which was very clean.
The hotel was adjacent to the main shopping centre & sea front.
What ever happened to hotels having parking facilities. This hotel didn't have parking but was lucky enough to have a multi-storey car park opposite the front door. Parking was £5 for the night if you parked between 5pm and 9am, after that it was £1 for every extra hour.
We 1st decided that we were not going to have breakfast as we were going to eat out or drive the 20 odd miles home & eat. However my wife decided to have the breakfast. It was £12.50. We went to the restaurant where we found limited cooked food, which many guests were complaining about. After waiting for 10 minutes for fresh bacon and eggs to be cooked. it wasn't the best. Many people complained.
Compare this to the premier in we stayed at two weeks previous it was like chalk & cheese. At the Premier Inns it costs £8.25 for as much as you can eat readily available quantities of cooked food and very much edible. Much to be learned here by the Park Inn.
I would stay here again but I would not have the breakfast.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view. Don't have the breakfast, eat out.

Having read so many of the other reviews, I find it hard to believe I stayed at the same place!

I already knew what to expect regarding the amusement park and car parking and ongoing construction. But we were still dismayed.

We pre-paid stays with other family members who were travelling to meet in this part of England, to be close to other family, so we experienced several rooms over a 10 day period. Apparently, this was the best there is in Southend-on-Sea. It might be okay for a couple of days.

The hotel was renovated a few years ago, but we ended up turning down several of the rooms due to the awful conditions: dents and scrapes and holes in the walls; blood stains (yes!) on the carpet; mold in the bathroom, hallway doors that slammed, and so on. The common hallways are poorly lit and depressing. Our "sea view" from the second floor was a view of a steel roof, and we shared the balcony with 4 other rooms; some of the rooms look straight into each other, so you're not likely to keep the drapes open much, are you? So much for the view!

There are no drawers in the rooms, just boxes on the floor for you to put your clothes in. There is no closet in any of the rooms, so your suitcases sit out in the open. If you put your suit case on the box, you cannot hang a shirt or dress from the steel pipes that act as clothes hangers without wrinkling.

Staff at the front desk were uncaring and complete bozos (except for one woman: Claudia was the only normal person we met and she was a relief to deal with: very reliable. Thanks!). Aside from her, dealing with the front desk was like a bad Monty Python skit.

The view of the Thames Estuary from the bar and restaurant can be quite pleasant and interesting.

I'm normally a smiling and cheery kind of fellow, able to force a smile from even the rudest of French waiters, but the people in the hotel bar and restaurant had me flumoxed (except for one gentleman on our last evening.) They ignored us as best they could, refused to help the elderly members of our group, and made me believe that we were imposing on them. I'm okay with the fact that they don't come to the table to take your order; I don't mind going to the bar to get it, but when I get there, I expect the staff to stop joking with each other and pay attention to me eventually. After a few days I got so frustrated that I stopped leaving tips. And that's not like me at all. I guess even I can only take so much.

If you have to stay in Southend-on-Sea, it might be your only option. But don't expect much, and hopefully you won't be as disappointed as I was.

This town isn't the most interesting in the UK, but the hotel has a fantastic location (although overlooking the amusement park).

It's a little bit worn, but me and my friends got a spacious room with a great view.

You can easily walk from both train stations and there are plenty of cheap eats around, just watch out for those crappy bars.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room

We have just returned from a four night stay with a Silver Star Holiday coach trip. We found the hotel to be very nicely decorated with very large room and a large comfortable bed. The bathroom was like new and very contemporary with large walk-in-shower. We had a very nice turret window in the corner of the room that made it that bit special.

An added bonus for the coach party guests was a lovely buffet breakfast and a really nice buffet dinner with an excellent choice of menu.

The restaurant staff, like all the staff in the hotel, were very attentive and very friendly.

It was the quietest hotel room we have ever stayed in. (We never had to resort to our usual ear plugs for a quiet nights sleep)

The location was spot on for Southend attractions and town centre.

Thank you all at the Park Inn for a wonderful stay. Looking forward to repeat visit.

we stayed here as part of a coach holiday this week, the rooms are large and was clean when we arrived its a pity the domestic did not use the vacuum cleaner for the rest of the week, the rooms have no wardrobes or draws just two short rails to hang your clothes and three boxes to put your smalls in ,the room 227 had a great sea view ,the down side was the small veranda it was covered in fag ends ,the food was self service which was no problem , its a shame that there was no signs to tell you what it was, it was complete chaos at meal times the three members of staff had no idea of how to go about serving food and drinks. the catering manager when told that thing were not right disappeared and did not come back ,the food was tasteless with no accoutrements to go with the dishes eg applesauce horseradish, and one night gravy, the potato salad was made with raw potato and when we complained we were told yes that's right so we have removed it, breakfast was a bit better with a good selection of hot and cold food, premier inns are a lot better than this place.

Room Tip: don't eat in weatherspoon just around the corner are better and cheaper
