“Lovely Place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 May 2014

We stayed at the Bay Guest House at the end of April. We were made to feel very welcome and the place was very clean and tidy Eleanor made us feel very special she explained what was around and was interested in our plans for the bank Holiday weekend. It wasn't till breakfast that we met Brian who again made us feel very welcome. Breakfast was tasty and well presented although a little on the small side. We went to a carvery to the left of the Bay guest House that was lovely My Grandson was made to feel more than welcome at both places, The only down side i felt was that even though i booked a family room my grandson had to sleep on the sofa rather than a proper bed. ( This bothered me more than him) The view was spectacular as we had the front room of the hotel so we didnt ask to be moved.

The Bay is a small, nicely decorated, warm, spotlessly clean, family run guest house where nothing is too much trouble. It is a fair walk from where all the action is along the main sea front, but the area is nice and quiet and there is also access to a free car park; a definite bonus as parking in the area is quite expensive.

There is more of a home from home feeling about The Bay than the usual 'standing on ceremony' attitude we have experienced at most hotels. Staff are friendly yet unobtrusive. Good choice of breakfast served in a relaxed, family atmosphere; including a very nice full English. My husband didn't come to breakfast on the second day but I was offered a bacon/sausage sandwich, or a round of toast to take to him. We have never experienced this ANYWHERE as it is usually a house rule not to take food into guest rooms!

Please remember to ask for anything you might need. Our shower room didn't have a towel rail, so we improvised, but I am sure we could have asked for extra towels if we'd needed them. Tea and coffee in the rooms aren't replenished each day but you can have as much as you like, you only have to ask.

The room was exactly as advertised; a small, double room with en suite shower room, but the direct access into the garden made it feel less confined. The bed was really comfortable, the TV worked brilliantly and there is also WIFI available (password provided on request). There was no hairdryer in our room but I had brought my own so this wasn't a problem. I expect they are also available on request but it might be worth asking before arrival. I believe irons are also available as I heard someone ask for one.

As smokers, we particularly enjoyed the private decking area with it's comfortable seating and delightful fish pond. Although we didn't make use of it, smoking is also allowed on the attractive seated patio area to the front of the guest house.

We were free to come and go as we pleased, and it felt very much like staying with a favourite aunt and uncle. We enjoyed every minute of our stay and would definitely go back.

Room Tip: Room No. 2 might be smaller than the other double rooms but it's on the ground floor, immediatel...

We stayed at The Bay last night and it was perfect! We had a very warm welcome and some good advice re restaurants and taxis etc, We were very lucky and parked right outside, but we looked at the parking to the rear and it's very safe and not even a 2 minute walk away.
The room (Room 1, double, ground floor, sea view) was immaculate and had everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable and the room was toasty for us coming in from a night out. Breakfast was very nice and we were pleased that the owner took time to talk to us during her busy schedule. We will be returning in March if we end up staying overnight for our next concert! Thank you for a lovely stay :)

Room Tip: Room 1 was ideal for us and, although we could hear the traffic, it was muffled.

Warm welcome, lovely people, well appointed, scrupulously clean rooms. Food was delicious and the price of the room very reasonable. Not only will we stop here again, but we will recommend to everyone else that comes to Southend, too.

Last time, we stopped in a 4 star hotel that was nowhere near as good as The Bay. Fantastic place.

I found this good value for money. I had a lovely big room with good facilities and a sea view. Parking is a bit of a pain as its in a car park just down the road, but it isn't too far to walk. It didnt seem to be too much of a problem to have breakfast earlier than 7.30 if you need too, but obviously its just cereal and toast at that hour of the morning.
