“Lovely hotel”

Stayed here at the beginniing of December and the hotel is literally 40 seconds walk from the airport or train station. That said there were no noise issues whatsoever from planes or trains. Room are very clean modern and functional, as is the whole hotel in fact. The bar and restaurant on the 5th floor add a great feel to the place and although i didnt have dinner there, bar service and staff were friendly and efficient. Breakfast the next day was well laid out and again service efficient.

Checked into the hotel recently the front receptionist was more interested in trying to get us to book breakfast,paper etc, than explaining the procedure with the room eg when entering the room how the lighting system works. Didnt bother either to explain about parking ticket has to be validated before you leave hotel, found it very expensive with no recommendation for anywhere to eat except at the hotel also quite noisy. sounds like plumbing needs adjusting was a very cold night room absolutely freezing, also overcharged on bill managed to get refund but not able to get bill until a few days later, understand this is a new hotel but service should be priority and didnt feel you got that here could not actually recommend anyone to stay there would only recommend a Bed and Breakfast nearby, thats what I will be doing next time

I was sorry to learn that you were not happy with the check in process when staying with us recently. It is always difficult to judge how much information to give guests when checking in and we do attempt to mention the important points, that most guests would be interested in. Research that Holiday Inn have conducted over the years has suggested most guests just want to get their key and to their room as soon as possible.

The car park has a new barrier system implemented in November by the car park owner and we are to a degree just getting used to this, as there was no system in use for the first 7 weeks. We have now posted car parking details at the front door of the hotel to help patrons with cars to understand the parking details.

I do hope that you would try us again in the future and are not put off by your experience.

Excellent food.first class service.with excellent veiws.will be going back.very attentive service .we were well looked after all night.reasonably prised.housurroundingsse wine not bad at 16-50 per bottle.surroundings and furniture modern.modern clean lines without being clinical looking.

Tried this restaurant out and found the service very poor, no one offering to top up you wine glasses , starter was ok but then ordered a steak for main, asked for it to be cooked blue which isn't hard to do . Steak turned up medium, sent in back for then to be dished up a steak that had been flashed cooked but still cold in the middle from just being taken out of the fridge.
Once desert was over no one asked if we would like coffee or any thing else to drink.
Felt this is a hotel restaurant trying to be be an up market eating establishment which it isn't and won't be.
Won't recommend to any one and will never go back.

Lovely hotel . Apart from the parking which is a pain. Food great, rooms lovely. Staff really good.
Would highly recomend. The restaurant on the top floor is lovely with a great bar. Really good TV in the rooms and wifi which you can also negotiate for free.

Room Tip: Negotiate a corner room. They are really good.

We went to this hotel for lunch. The food was good and so was the view, but the service can improve, after ordering our drinks we waited 15 minutes, and asked the waiter where are our drinks, he checked with the bar and came back saying that the barman had mislaid the tab. A good waiter would have been asking the bar where the drinks were after 5 minutes.
We will try again, and if the service does not improve, I will tell you all.

I find it galling that when I telephoned to book a table in the restaurant, I was informed that calls cost 10p. per minute, which I think is totally unacceptable. I do not want to be ripped off just so that I can make a booking in their restaurant. Also, the call was answered by Intercontinental Group, NOT the Holiday Inn. So I had to give the name of the hotel I wanted to ring, and was then given a Southend telephone number. - TWO phone calls to make a restaurant reservation. When I phoned that number and got reservations, I asked for the restaurant. When the phone was picked up again, I was asked did I want to book a room, I told them I wanted to book a table in the restaurant, so was transferred again. When I finally got through, they said they were fully booked. All that - and not to even get a table. Not to worry though, as after reading the review written by Lorna, I shall not even TRY to eat in their restaurant.

Thank you for your feedback regarding the experience you had trying to make a restaurant reservation. The number listed here is the IHG - Holiday Inn generic call line and now that we are open i will try to get this changed to our local telephone number 01702 543001.
Our restaurant has proved to be very popular in the short time we have been open serving over 2000 non hotel guests since opening. It is true to say that we have experienced some teething issues not least partly due to the popularity of the restaurant and having to recruit more new staff rather quickly. we are improving all the time and I do hope you may consider visiting the restaurant in the near future.
