Just had an overnight stop here as all hotels in and around Basildon were fully booked.
The hotel is new and modern and the rooms are spacious and well appointed. Checking in and out was quick and efficient - great when you are in a hurry. Didn't eat here as we went into London for an evening meal with work. Nothing to complain about here, would use again

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your feedback. We are glad that you had a good stay. We are always striving to provide the best service, however sometimes if all guests come at once to breakfast it is not possible to manage the portions sizes as we offer a help yourself buffet.
We hope to have you back as a guest again in the future.
Kind regards,

First time at this hotel and both my wife and I found it excellent. Check-in staff were friendly and efficient and as it was my first time visiting explained the ins and outs of the hotel, not a service you get at all Holiday Inns so well done Katie I think her name was. I was recognised as PC elite member and given an upgrade. The room was fine which you would expect from an almost new hotel, didn't have a problem with the mattress as per other reviews.
One thing which stood out for me as opposed to other Holiday Inns was that the staff were quite young, and I have to say without exception they were friendly, courteous and very efficient. Special mention must go to Jayne in the restaurant, I don't think I've ever met a more pleasant helpful member of staff in all my years of staying in hotels, thank you.
Communial areas were clean and modern, there is Lounge Bar on the ground floor which we did not use, but went to the 4th floor bar overlooking the runway which has great view overlooking the airport, its not Heathrow so don't expect planes to land every couple of minutes.
We ate in the restaurant, the menu was fine, something for everyone and the service was excellent. Breakfast is the standard buffet fare but eggs are cooked fresh which means they don't sit around on a hot plate for ages and resemble those joke eggs you could buy.
I would happily stay here again.

We were very impressed with Katie at check in. Friendly and helpful. Our room was perfect and the air conditioning was amazing and appreciated during our heat wave. We ate at the restaurant and enjoyed our food. It's not cheap and probably a little overpriced but the food was generally of a good standard. I highly recommend for a pre flight stop over and it's a great way to start your holiday.

A nice modern hotel within 150 yards of Southend Airport. The hotel opened in 2012 after the London Olympics for which it was originally planned. We have stayed here three times, but sadly we will not return.

The rooms are airy, modern and 50% of them overlook the airport. The Wifi works well, decent air conditioning.

There restaurant is on the 5th floor, but only a couple of tables overlook the airport which is a pity bearing in mind the view (which is exceptional).

We only had a breakfast in the hotel, this is served buffet style and is quite good.

So with all of these pluses, why won't I stay there again ? Well the main purpose of a hotel is to allow their guests to have a good night sleep so they are refreshed for the next day. Well this Holiday Inn failed on this basic point.
On arrival at the hotel we were allocated a Executive room (412). On trying the bed we discovered the mattress severely sagging in the middle. Now for a piece of info for modern hotel beds...like all spring mattresses, they need to be turned. To aid hotels in this process the mattresses have calendar labels sewn on each corner (Jan, Feb, Mar) (April, May, June) etc. The mattress in Rm 412 potentially had not been turned since April. We were moved to Rm 413, another sagging mattress and it had not been turned since January ! We then asked for the assistance of the Duty Manager. On our third attempt we found a bed that was not sagging as badly even though the mattress had not been turned since April.
So after all this moving between different room did I get a good night sleep. Well no, we went to bed at 11pm and woke at 2am with neck and back pain. So for the remaining 5 hours we slept on the floor.
So based on being allocated a random room, trying 4 more that all had sagging mattresses I can only assume that the remaining rooms on the 4th floor would have the same problem.
We have stayed in the nearby Premier Inn (Thorpe Bay) and they have far superior beds and that is meant to be a budget hotel !

The only redeeming factor at this hotel was the service offered by the Receptionist and the Duty Manager.

Room Tip: Stay at another hotel.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to feedback on your stay. I'm sorry the experience failed to meet your expectations and our usual standards and that you had to move rooms on several occasions. The Housekeeping team will be spoken to and this incident investigated.
I hope to welcome you back to the hotel in the future,
Kind regards
