Only stayed 1 night, found all the staff friendly and helpful, receptionist explained fully and answered my questions clearly. Room very comfortable, clean and modern. Mini gym was great in the morning, and finally breakfast, a warm welcome very clean facilities, good selection of food and a overall nice view of Southend Airport. Would highly recommend to anybody, will definitely re-visit.

Room Tip: they have a selection of rooms that over look the airport, Gym is on the 1st floor, restaurant on th...

Took a party of 30 here for the party night and we all had a really enjoyable time. The room was beautifully decorated, the food good and the staff very pleasant and helpful. The disco played the sort of music that everyone could dance to and a good time was had by all till midnight. Stayed the night at the hotel, comfortable quiet room with airport views and good selection for breakfast.

Although we live nearby I wanted to stay here as soon as I saw its striking shape. We were very fortunate to be allocated an executive room with the curved windows. Being on the first floor the views weren't amazing but the room was lovely and the reception staff very friendly and helpful.

Was looking forward to my overnight stay and although I can't point to anything in particular the experience was underwhelming (especially I'd you pay the £198 per room rack rate). First 'niggle' is the 'discounted' £5 per night parking fee ? Why charge clients?. Reception staff were pleasant but a 'parrot fashion' welcome. Hotel is brand new and rooms are ok but nothing that special. 5th floor Restaurant was good again food acceptable, service acceptable. All in all underwhelming !

Thank you for leaving a review regarding your recent stay. The car park is owned and operated by the airport and if there were no charges the car park would always be full of non hotel guests. This is typical of an airport hotel. Thank you for your comment about our pleasant reception staff and the good restaurant. I'm sorry you felt a little underwhelmed.

The room was big and very clean I'm very fussy with toilet but this one was nice and clean
The service was really good it has a nice view as well so we had a really good night

Good points were that the hotel is ideally situated for airport and railway station although would end up getting soaked if rained.
Check in staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful
Was good value for money.

Rooms were however somewhat soulless but were functional and had everything we needed including a period of free wi-fi.
Would avoid room service - expensive and took a long time considering hotel looked comparatively empty. Portion of chips was extremely small and club sandwich was almost cold.

I will have to split this review into two, part one for the hotel and the second part for the restaurant.

The hotel itself was generally good. A friendly front desk receptionist upon checkin (though the night manager was rather grumpy!), a very comfy bed and a nice spacious room. There was a leak in the bathroom that we had to mop up, but that was no more than a mild inconvenience.

The restaurant let the hotel down badly. Average food at expensive prices, and friendly but poor service. Items were forgotten, but more importantly there was a serious wait for drinks and mains. I never normally mind a bit of a wait, but it got to the point that we had to chase for our drinks twice before they appeared.
I personally had the Sirloin Steak which I was underwhelmed with and the prawn starter was one of the worst I've had in a long time. Absolutely no flavour whatsoever with greasy batter. It feels like they're trying too hard in order to justify the price tag, and letting basic standards slip in doing so.
I've certainly had much better food for far less money before.

Thank you for your review regarding your recent stay. We are delighted you thought the rooms were spacious and had comfy beds. We are sorry to learn that you thought the restaurant let the hotel down. We have a new head chef who started in August and new menus from October and almost all comment have been very positive recently. Mickey the head chef appreciates the feedback and will monitor the quality of the prawns and steaks. Our steaks are purchased from a local supplier and matured longer than most large chain suppliers and usually receive positive comments. I apologise for the wait and having to ask about drink service - you should never have to ask twice.

I do hope that you do try 1935 Rooftop Restaurant and Bar should you stay again in the future, so we might change your mind about our standard of food and service.

Steve
