Stayed here for just one night and had room service. The room was really nice and clean, modern and had everything you needed. We had room service which did take a while to be delivered but was very nice once it arrived, albeit a little on the expensive side.

I enjoyed my stay here and would definitely stay again.

We were upgraded to an executive room on 4th floor. Great room with views over the airport. 6 planes took off in the morning and we didn't notice any noise from 4 of them and only faintly heard the other 2 as we were watching! So have to say the double glazing works well. We didn't hear any noise from the restaurant at breakfast and we were in the room until 10am. What was very noticeable was how good and quiet the airconditioning was - normally I have to switch it off because of the noise. Bath had two showers above it and night/mood lighting. 6 of us ate in the restaurant and got a table with a view. It was very busy and there was also a wedding on the ground floor but we didn't have to wait too long for service, the girls that served us were professional and friendly and the main courses were all great. All the deserts (apart from Rossi's icecream) were awful which was a disappointment. Plenty of parking but don't see why if you are staying in the hotel you should have to pay £5 a night - though would happily pay for park & ride. Its a short walk to the airport and the railway station for trains to Southend Victoria or London Liverpool Street. For those partial to a McDonalds there is a 24 hr one opposite and if you walk up either of the roads across the roundabout there is a small papershop/stores down one road and a coop down the other if you have forgotten anything (there are no shops in the airport). Will no doubt stay again when visiting friends and family in that area.

Room Tip: Get an upgrade to the 4th floor if you can

Dear AmandaScotland,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback in relation to your recent visit to the hotel.

Firstly I was so pleased to know that you had lovely dinner minus desserts and great service. We have a state of the art soundproofing to avoid any aircraft noise in room. I was of course very sorry to learn that were saddened by the car park charges and would have like it to be free. But I must inform you that none of the hotel located near airport gives free car park but we do offer the best rate of £5.00 instead of £13.00 per night.
We appreciate your comments and looking forward to welcoming you again.
Regards
Rohit

We had two rooms and stayed for 2 nights, to attend a family wedding at The Lawn nearby. One of the rooms was a standard double, the other a king. The rooms were essentially the same, same size and facilities although it is a bit strange that in the king room the lights and controls are only available on one side of the bed.

Everything was good in the rooms, and for us with wedding outfits to press it was good that each room has an iron and ironing board provided, no need to put in a special request to housekeeping. The buffet breakfast in the mornings was good, Sunday’s breakfast had a little more variety as I guess the hotel was busier over Saturday night than on the Friday. We also ordered some of the a la carte breakfast items (kippers and pancakes) and they were tasty too. Take note of the busy times expected in the restaurant for breakfast that are posted in the lifts – the restaurant is not large and if you arrive along with everyone else you will have to wait for a table.

We also had an evening meal on one night included in our rate, so we ate in the rooftop restaurant for dinner as well. Good food and a great view of the runway.

The hotel had a wedding reception on the Saturday night we were there. We had a room on the second floor and although we could hear some of the music it did not disrupt us, we had no problem with other guests being noisy and the party finished at midnight when it was all quiet again.

Stayed here one night on park and fly package. Very close to airport (and to railway station with direct trains to the town/sea front), well run, clean and easy to use hotel. Would happily stay again, decent value price if booked in advance.

We stayed here while my husband took some flying lessons - it's about 100m from Southend Airport and train station. You can either walk into town (couple of miles away) or take the number 9 bus or a train.

We had dinner here on the second night of our stay, and were a bit disappointed. Service was good but this had been vaunted as an excellent restaurant and the food didn't quite live up to the hype, especially given the price-quality ratio. It's really just a grill restaurant with some fancy trimmings and a pricey wine list. A much better bet for food is the Mews in Southend city centre, if you're looking to treat someone to a nice dinner.

Our room was lovely with a huge king sized bed. I'd say it's worth paying a bit more for a suite so you get a bathtub in the bathroom. There's dressing gowns (no slippers), tea and coffee making facilitlies and, rather oddly, 1 free Mars bar in the room to share with your beloved.

Our biggest problem with the room was noise, not from the airport but from the dining area directly above our heads. We were on the 4th floor and the restaurant above generated quite a lot of noise, especially the breakfast to-ing and fro-ing, which slightly spoiled our rest. But the views from the hotel of the airport are great - some nights here would be a real treat for any aviation geek. It's a notch above the normal Holiday Inn experience.

Dear Tango_tastic
Thank you for leaving a review about your 1 week recent stay and commenting that we are notch above a typical Holiday Inn. We are delighted you found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. I am bit surprised to know the food didn’t live to your hype, which is anomalous at 1935 history and in regards to price-quality ratio, we offer few main courses from £9.95 and they are our most popular dishes too.
In regards to your room, our executive and superior room has the best bathrooms in hotel but we do offer bathtub in all the other rooms. I am sorry to know that, you were not supplied with sufficient mars bar and slippers in the room.
We look forward to welcoming you again when you are visiting the area again....

Rohit

have stayed here twice now. Once for a night away. great lunch in hotel. day to southend. then back to the hotel for a fab meal in the restaurant.
Second time, because we had an early flight from the airport which is a 5 min walk from hotel so used the park and stay. Takes a lot of stress out of your journey, no worrying about missing your flight.
The Hotel is very clean and very comfortable. The staff are friendly and very efficient, especially the reception.
