A group of 30 of us booked into this hotel for the may day weekend. The check in was handled excellently and Bertie the owner and his staff were superb nothing was too much trouble. 8 of us decided to have an evening meal at the hotel and this was excellent. The breakfast was buffet style with plenty to choose from and again excellent. Will definitely return when in the area. Well done Bertie and Staff.

Room Tip: Room 6 Top Floor is a large room with a four poster bed.

Easter weekend in Southend is a bit of a habit for me now. This (2014) was the fifth time I've driven down from Aberdeen, to stay at The Ilfracombe

After 10 hours behind the wheel and arriving several hours early (my miscalculation), the staff did their best to get me into my room ASAP for a nap. The breakfast is fantastic, probably the best I've had in a hotel and you can eat as much as you like. The hot servers are continually filled with freshly cooked food and you can help yourself as many times as you want. I also had one evening meal on this trip and that was of excellent quality and value too.

The rooms are warm, comfortable and clean and the owner, his family and staff are always polite, professional and attentive.

It's very close to the seafront and a 10 minute walk from the town center and railway station. Parking can be an issue but it's never caused me any great concerns albeit I've had to drive round the block a couple of times to get a space - no biggie really. It's very reasonably priced too.

I'd have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to any one and all goilng well I'l be back for years to come.

Thanks Bertie, family and staff.

Brian!!!!

As usual we booked a one night stay using Booking.com. Not being one to normally have a gripe we paid £84 for a normal double room with Breakfast. The hotel's brochure/flyer which we picked up in reception states that the price of the room is between £74 and £79 with a discount if booked direct. I'll leave you to fathom that one out as I didn't think hotels usually charged a premium if booked through Booking.com. The hotel is clean and tidy in all aspects and comfortable. Couldn't get a car park space but street parking was available. Good position for the seafront and a pleasant stroll into Southend itself. Would recommend but watch who you book with.

Had a wonderful time there last year. So stayed 3 nights room 9 sleeps 3. Good aspect etc. When we arrived mid morning used the facilities and were told 12.30-1pm would be ready no probs. Went up town had a good look around. Came back just after 1 completely shattered no room ready. was asked to look at the apartment next door but one on ground floor. Nice enough but not enough room for a disabled and one using a cpap machine as the double bed was pushed against the window. Waited another 20 mins for the room to be cleaned with coffee on the house. Yes beds clean all white as before, but window had a large crack down it. The bathroom desperately needs slip mats as the floor tile are very slippy ones and the bath also. Its a 1970 mustard and is now very very dated. The hand basing appeared to be worn and discolouring and tap constantly dripping. The tolet had a handle that was ready to fall off any time. Also sanitary bags were 1 and never replaced. Milke and tea wasn`t replenished without us asking....very disapponted. The one special thing was that the hotel sold tickets for Adventure world at approx half price they stopped it when I asked on the second time Said they were told not to sell them!!!!

Room Tip: possibly an apartment in another building

Hidden outside London but within very easy reach, the hotel is not only spotlessly clean but also boasts some of the best hospitality I have had as a business traveller.

The staff have a welcome that is not only sincere but also leaves you with a feel good factor.I have stayed here on a number of occasions and plan to come back in the summer as a tourist. Good people ,clean rooms and very reasonably priced.

You wont be disappointed .

After reading the lovely reviews of the Ilfracombe House Hotel, I decided that it seemed the perfect place to stay before an important meeting the next morning.

I'll start with the positive: the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was quite good.

But in case others are considering this hotel as I did, thinking it a quiet place to stay, I felt the need to write this review. Please be aware that the hotel lacks soundproofing. In fact, it was without a doubt the noisiest I've ever stayed in! You can hear all sounds and even quiet conversation in the hallways, also coming from rooms around and below. I was unable to take a nap after my long train journey, and also unable to sleep at a reasonable hour, as people were carrying on conversations until about 1am. Of course, some wake at 5 am, so my morning started earlier than I expected. So much for arriving fresh and alert for that important meeting of mine.

I wouldn't return, as nice as the staff and the breakfast are.

Stayed 2 nights at the beginning of the month. The curtains in 18 are falling down and the cleaner forgot to clean, bed cup etc after my first night. I did get a free drink without a row but not the point. The small single downstairs gets the noise of everyone who gets up early (workers and flight crew maybe) so I was awake from just after 5-00am. If you are large (thankfully I'm not) the basin will prevent you using the loo. Nice people who run the hotel and the evening food was good but 4 star it is not. Good area to sit in the evening and does have Sky if that is important to you

Room Tip: Serves a purpose if you get a good rate (I didn't) and avoid the single on the ground floor. Par...
