“Country pub at its best!”
Reviewed 16 March 2014 via mobile

We went with friends to the Hoop on Saturday night, with a no reservation policy we left our name at the bar whilst having drink and had a table within 30mins. I'd say go about 7 or 830 to allow the sittings through. You won't be disappointed, a very comfortable setting in a traditional old pub the atmosphere is lovely and the food fantastic. We had a selection of starters and mains and every single one was great and all plates cleared. The chick pea fritters were a hit and the toad int eh hole is unmissable!! A full on Yorkshire with sausage and mash! Good selection of beers make it a great night out, out of town

“3.5/5 nice pretty barn feel, upmarket gastropub in essex village”
Reviewed 15 March 2014

this is a lovely little setting in village and seemed to be full of locals. Upstairs restaurant quite upmarket (white linens etc) but didnt feel pretentious. Food good- i seemed to be the unlucy one as my risotto was a bit too soft and bland but the others loved their mains- the duck seemed to be a winner and the mash potato super creamy. The onion rings are also huge!! its quite pricy, about £75 a couple with no desserts and limited alchaholic drinks (think only two if the four of us were drinking and even then was just a beer or two). Service fine although at times was hard to get girls notice. Nice "imagine if this was my house" feel to the place. Shame you cant book downstairs as seemed a bit more laid back/casual eating in the pub area- although a little cramped

Many thanks for your review.
I have passed your comments to to the kitchen but please except our apologies regarding the risotto I remember yours as you had the lardo on the side.
Do hope to see you again at the Hoop.
Kind regards

“Great food and service in lovely setting”
Reviewed 13 March 2014 via mobile

Just back from a quick dinner in The Hoop. Haven't been for a while and was pleasantly surprised at the new menu. Lots of old favourites but some excellent new additions. We had the haddock omelette supreme which was just as lush as it gets and the chicken burger which was also lovely. We started off with the crisp bread topped with pesto and Parmesan which was off the clock good!! Service was great and the rose very drinkable.
Will be heading back v soon!!

“A small village pub with a big heart”
Reviewed 11 March 2014

If you ever need an example of how a good village pub should be and feel this is it. With exquisitely turned out food every time, and a host of ales and wine it's difficult to consider eating and drinking anywhere else.

“Always excellent”
Reviewed 11 March 2014

This is my local and the food here is excellent. The Oak Room has more formal dining, the bar serves very, very good bar food. The Sunday luunch is the best you'll find in an Essex pub! Beer selection is interesting and varied and always one or two "real ciders" on offer too. If you're visiting Stock then pay a visit to the Hoop, you won't be disappointed.
