On the plus side, this is the last time my wife trust me to book accommodation...
The overrall feel of the room is 'cheap'. The bed is small - because of the metal frame I can't lie down flat (I'm 6'2") and uncomfortable - it's the kind where the springs creak loudly as soon as you sit on it. We are sleeping on top of the thin duvet and using a fleece we happened to buy as a blanket.
There is barely enough room to swing your own bits in the bathroom, let alone a cat (it's less than 1 metre by 2 metres excluding the shower, the delights of which I will be foregoing). The hand soap is Tesco Value, which is not a problem in itself but is just an example of the cheap feel.
The curtains are wafer thin, which is why I am writing this about 6.30 am, having been awake about an hour. The walls aren't much better.
Apart from the 2 Rattan chairs, the furniture is sub-Ikea, but is at least newish. The carpet is brown and nasty.
If I was a backpacker, paying backpacker prices, all of the above would be par from the course (unless backpacking digs have improved over the last 16 years). Paying £60 in Westcliffe for the privilege is beyond the pale.More
