We were impressed by the Green Man. We used to come here when it was under previous ownership and looking at the more thoughtful recent reviews on TA we were interested to come back and try it again. (If people have problems with what they are expecting why don't they raise it at the time?)
From the friendly welcome with a smile (always a good start) to the very good choice of reasonable priced food - the changing menu is on the chalkboard to the right of the bar - our first impressions were very promising and it just got quietly better. It is a traditional old place which, thank goodness, has not been corporately tarted up.
We enjoyed a pint of good 'Cask Marque' real ale IPA. The food was very good indeed. I had lambs liver and bacon. The liver was beautifully tasty - and just lightly cooked therefore really tender and served with excellent bacon, onion gravy and good vegetables. I think it was about the £11 mark which I thought was a good price for a very good dish.
For puds we both had the bread and butter pudding. This was also very good indeed just like the very best you could make at home. Light and soft inside with a crispy top. Mine came with its own little jug of pouring cream and my wife's with a larger jug of custard. Excellent.
Thank you to all at The Green Man for all your hard work and for giving us a very enjoyable dinner. We will be back.
