“Great place for a get together with family or friends”
Reviewed 18 July 2011 for a stay in January 2011

Everything was just as we expected from the information on the website and the house was warm and welcoming on our arrival. The arrangement of rooms suited our family group of six adults and two small children very well and we used the first floor sitting room as a playroom during our stay. The nearby pub, the Crown Inn, coped well with our party of 14 for Sunday lunch. We had some great walks directly from the house and the weather was surprisingly good for January. We appreciated the fact that the owners dealt with messages very promptly. In fact, I can't think of a single negative thing about our stay and we all said we would like to go back some time.

“Gorgeous property, well maintained, with oodles of character!”
Reviewed 17 July 2011 for a stay in March 2011

Extremely well-equipped - comfortable and warm. The featured property has everything you need and more. Stylish inside, whilst maintaining all the features of a property of its era. We had an extremely relaxing girlie weekend - right next to a pub - perfect! Don't forget the other pub in the village - a short walk away - great Sunday lunch there. Picturesque village - we didn't leave it all weekend - perfect for a break away from it all!

“The perfect house in the perfect village to explore the Cotswolds.”
Reviewed 16 July 2011 for a stay in August 2010

Hainault House very comfortably accommodated our group of 8 + a baby as both a base for exploring the Cotswolds and for "staying at home". The house has spacious rooms and beautiful terraces with views of the lovely countryside. Its kitchen is fully equipped to prepare large meals and home delivery services are available for groceries. The owners and caretaker provided very personable and responsive service. The picturesque village of Blockley has all the charm of a Cotswold village without the crush of tourists. Centrally located it provides a convenient base for exploring the better known Cotswolds villages and hiking the many public footpaths. Also it is only a short cab ride from the train station in Moreton-in-Marsh. Our family and friends loved the place!

“Hainault House is the perfect winter retreat”
Reviewed 12 July 2011 for a stay in January 2011

I stayed at Hainault House in January (immediately after new year) with my boyfriend. It was a last minute booking as we fancied a wintery weekend away. The owner that I spoke to couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. I had lots of questions about the house and the area as I wanted a balanced mix of being in peace and quiet but having good local pubs, restaurants, cafes and walks in the village. The owner told me which pub to avoid and which pubs and restaurants he recommended - all were great. We had all the good, delicious food and rural welcome that you hope for from your country weekend away.

Hainault absolutely lived up to expectations - it is such a lovely house. It feels rustic and old, but modern and clean at the same time. It has a huge inglenook fireplace which we sat in front of every night chatting and listening to music, a really nice second living room upstairs with a TV (which we never ended up using but it would be perfect if I was there with friends and their kids as the kids can have their own space), really comfortable beds and good bed linen (fresh, modern, ironed etc i.e. they have taken care over the presentation) and a lovely (and long!) back garden which rises up from the back door all the way up to the shed/garage at the top. The path on the way up the garden is lovely at night - the steps have been lit, so it feels like you're walking up and into a secret garden. We wrapped up warm and sat at the top of the garden drinking wine and looking at the amazing view of stars (always overwhelming when you're used to living in a city!).

Although there were only two of us staying, we prefer staying in a more spacious house when we go away for the weekend as it feels more home-from-home, so we found this perfect for the 2 of us - there was a whole floor of rooms at the top which we didn't even venture up to really, but obviously would be perfect if you were staying as a group.

Blockley itself is fab too - beautiful buildings, great walks and this incredible cafe-come-shop which sells top quality lattes and breakfast together with pretty much anything else you could want! If only my local shop was like that....

“An amazing taste of the Cotswold living”
Reviewed 12 July 2011 for a stay in March 2011

This amazing period property set in the heart of a beautiful Cotswold village. local shops and good pubs in walking distance. The attention to detail and standards of the property made for an excellent weekend with all the trimmings. It felt like truly authentic experience with the large inglenook fir, an Aga in the kitchen, fantastic wooden beams and original oak floor boards. what a special place

We will defiantly be back to this haven in the near future.

“Steepness, and lack of view, of garden made for disappointing stay”
Reviewed 9 July 2011 for a stay in July 2011

Just returned from a family holiday to Hainault House - 5 adults, and two infants (1 year and 5 months). The accommodation was satisfactory - clean enough but things were a little tired and unloved and not the luxury that was promised. Bottle of wine and a cake on arrival a nice touch. The village is lovely and very well located for the rest of the Costwolds. However, the big disappointment was the complete lack of garden view out the back due to the steepness of climb to get to it. Steps rise straight from the back of the kitchen door and you're almost at roof height before you get to the first level of the garden and another steep climb to get to the level with offering the view shown on the website. NOT practical when you have two small children and that have to be carried everywhere. I had asked about the garden before booking as the website only gave you a sense of view of the garden (which one would assume is from the house - it's not). I was told it was on two levels which would've been fine but neither the website nor the pre-booking information gave us a sense of the steepness and inaccessibility of the garden and the fact that you can only see steps from the back of the house makes the rear of the property feel very closed in. Having a useable outside space for a summer holiday with small children is a must. I had seen and discounted other wonderful looking properties because they had been very clear about access and safety issues for small children. Had the nature of the garden layout for Hainault House been divulged I would not have booked. Very disappointing.

Management Response
12 Jul 2011
Dear Guest

We are devastated to receive this review and can only apologise profusely if you feel that you were in any way mislead about the steps that lead up to the garden.

We try to be specific about the fact that there are steps up to the garden and we thought that our photographs showed which views were from the house and which are from the garden. We have always felt that the stunning views from the top garden are worth the climb up the steps, but it appears that we have not been specific enough with you about the need to climb the steps to reach both garden areas – we apologise if our communication was not good enough.

With regard to your other ratings, we will contact you directly and would be very grateful for further feedback, as you gave everything other than location a rating that requires action from us. We take guest feedback VERY seriously and this is the first time in our three years of letting Hainault House that we have had such poor feedback, so we want to ensure that it never happens again.

Once again, we are very sorry that your holiday did not meet your expectations and we will do everything we can to try and respond to any further matters you raise.

“Beautiful house & location.”

Hainault House is in a beautiful location, with plenty of interesting places to visit in the area. The house is very well equipped and a great deal of thought has been put into making the property a real 'home from home'. The village store and bakery is very well stocked with essentials, fresh fruits and veggies and fresh bakery items. We all enjoyed our stay.
