After visiting this garden yesterday neither I nor my husband would recommend you pay a visit. The garden needs a lot of work and tender loving care so the visit was extremely disappointing. The planting scheme and variety was very poor and the plants on sale were as bad as those in the weed ridden and badly maintained borders. We each paid £6 into the honesty system on arrival and if a member of staff could have been found during our visit we would have demanded a refund. I would not rate this at all and instead recommend a visit to Hidcote or Kiftsgate instead.

My husband and I stayed here a number of years ago when the gardens were relatively new and not as extensively developed and Mill Dene was then a bed and breakfast. It was one of the loveliest places we stayed on that trip and Wendy and Barry Dare were wonderful hosts. The gardens are much more extensive today and tea and cakes are available and there are also unusual plants for sale. It is no longer a bed and breakfast. Sadly, Mill Dene is presently for sale and I do not know what that means for the future.

very disappointing. it costs £5 00 to visit the garden but it wasnt worth 50 pence . There was a poor variety of flowers. It looked like a large private back garden which needed much TLC . There was evidence of work being done by a couple of gardeners but i dont plan to go back to see the end result . I would not rate it as a garden worth visiting

This does not conform to the usual public garden product, as you might expect from say the National Trust or Chatsworth. It feels more like a private garden, managed with love by keen gardeners who set their own standards, do what they want and then let the rest of the world come and share their results. It is not immaculate but it does have charm and it conjures up an exciting series of moods as you travel from one side of the garden, across the stream, up the steep terraces, with the village and church perched still higher above, then back down to the lake, (via The Oval) and the marvellous mill pond. If you love gardens and gardening, then do not miss it.
