Description: A very warm welcome to the Butchers Arms. One of the oldest pubs in the Forest of Dean, we have been welcoming locals and visitors alike since 1802. Our menu combines signature 'Butchers' dishes with traditional British favourites, our modern recipes and grills are all prepared by Head Chef Matt Wheeler and his team from the freshest ingredients. Wherever possible we will endeavour to provide produce from local suppliers so you can truly have a taste of the Forest of Dean. We pride ourselves in providing good quality food, excellent service and a relaxed atmosphere. All our food is cooked fresh to order, so please allow a little time for service. We look forward to seeing you. Matt and Scott Directors

“Excellent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2012

We came here on the last night of our jubilee holiday to Clearwell and it was so much better than another restaurant in the village that we had eaten in the night before. It has a lovely atmosphere and is 'olde worlde' with some contemporary touches. The waitress, the chef and the bar staff were all very friendly and helpful and even allowed us to eat in the 'snug' with our dog. The food was top quality and we each had a 3 course meal for under £15pp (a midweek deal). On top of this, we got a 20% discount on our food bill as we stayed at The Old Bakery - a self catering cottage just down the road. A number of interesting vegetarian dishes were on the menu and the wines were all very reasonably priced. It really made our last night special and we wouldn't eat anywhere else if we were to visit Clearwell again!

“Inconsistent”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 May 2012

Made a reservation to visit with a group of friends, food took an eternity to arrive and portion sizes were inconsistent. Have had good meals here in the past but I've never been able to say that it's consistently good.

“Really good food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 May 2012

We live locally and called in with my girl friend without a reservation. Were made really welcome. The barman knew his beers which are all well-kept and the food is sensational. The weather was bad so we couldn't eat outside but there are plenty of tables on a patio which woud be great if we ever get a summer! Can't wait to go again.

“Lovely Old Pub”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 May 2012

Gorgeous old pub, very friendly staff and really good food which is much more restaurant standard than your average pub food. Newly refurbished guest bedrooms with really smart bathrooms. Definitely recommended.

“What a Fantastic Pub”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 May 2012

This is your picture postcard English village pub. A genuinely old building with exposed beams and a massive old fireplace which must be great in the winter. We called on a Friday evening without a reservation and were made very welcome. Good range of ales and then what food! The Butchers Beef is truly AMAZING but then I tried some of my wife's fish pie and that was absolutely stunning as well. Excellent quality, reasonably priced, what an asset to and area like the Forest of Dean. We will definitely be back!
