Just returned from Cowley Manor after a couple of days of a much needed break. All staff we came across were incredibly welcoming and looked after us extremely well, without being intrusive in any way. We arrived early and were able to use the spa facilities for lunch and relaxing even before checking in. Then, in the busy car park we were spotted getting our bags out of the car and a member of staff popped up and helped carry them in (and on up to our room after a guided tour).

Our room was lovely, spacious and well stocked, including a large bottle of water by the bed (complimentary), with the delicious toiletries generously available to try. Huge fluffy towels, gowns and flip flops provided although we were a teeny bit disappointed there were no slippers. Room has CD player, DVD player and iPod docking station. Great to have a list of CDs and DVDs to borrow from reception and freeview TV channels give lots of in room options. Coffee machine and kettle great, liked fresh milk in mini fridge rather than UHT, although ran out of sugar.

Ate dinner in The Restaurant, very good range of choice, as was wine list, generous portions and good to fantastic flavours. No children around at dinner, which was a civilised experience, but it was nice to see families able to enjoy the hotel and grounds too. Wellies, umbrellas and bicycles thoughtfully provided to aid exploration of the grounds and complimentary newspapers and board games indoors in case the weather gets too much.

Across the car park, C-side Spa was lovely, staff again very welcoming and helpful. More fluffy robes and towels and generously available toiletries. Sauna, Steam room, gymn and indoor and outdoor pools excellent and never too busy, choice of seating or loungers. Only gripes here were lack of handrail for steps down into pool, which would have reassured partner due for hip replacement and the pool windows needed cleaning. Treatment rooms were immaculate and the staff professional, highly skilled and friendly.

The Village Shop distracted us for 15 minutes slowly mooching around, but while supplies of beautiful things were interesting, they were beautifully priced - a tad high in our opinion.

Overall we heartily recommend Cowley Manor to those seeking a short UK break and pamper. You can take your watch off as a later breakfast (up to 11am) and no time pressure for dinner, made us feel truly on holiday. The only schedule is for the spa treatments which seem to get quietly busy. We anticipate a return visit before the winter is through.

Thank you to all staff.

You’ll find some great ‘posh’ hotels to choose from in The Cotswolds. For example if you’ve got money to burn/waste you could try Calcot Manor in Tetbury. The sensible choice however is Cowley Manor. A lovely building, set in fantastic grounds and looking great whatever the weather; it’s the place with great food, fab rooms and relaxed, kind and courteous staff.

Enquiries and emails are well-handled ahead of your arrival; prompt replies and good information.

This place feels like your Cotswolds ‘home away from home’; it would have been a warm and cosy autumnal welcome in the room if it was not for the windows being left open and the heating off – that won’t happen again, apparently.

Competent, if a little ‘safe’ cooking, at on the whole sensible (ish) prices. Nice touches like Nespresso machines, DVD and CD players in-room. Great ‘all you can use’ toiletries in the bathroom. This is a hotel that understands (free) Wi-Fi is as important these days as a comfortable bed… you’ll get that too, king sized in a spacious room.

Tariffs are about right, but you might feel £40 a night for a child sharing is a bit steep on a bed that is usually a in-room sofa, even if that rate does include supper.

Give yourself a long weekend treat, you’ll come back feeling refreshed, and no need to pack your Hunters - as there are pairs in all sizes waiting for you at the front door.

To Whom it May concern,

Wonderful, Wonderful, superb, amazing, special & truly enjoyable.................

I would like to thank all your staff for a absolutely wonderful weekend stay @ Cowley Manor. This was a treat for my wife's birthday and it gave us both an opportunity of a well earned break.

The room was stunning, welcome was 1st class, with a little gift left in the room for my wife which was set up by your staff (i had booked this room well in advance and MAY have mentioned that it was a birthday treat on the phone to Zena, but i was not expecting anybody else to be aware so hats off to Zena for picking up on our conversation from that intial phone call).

The surrounding gardens looked stunning, C-side pool was great, food sensational and the staff in the restaurant morning and night were 1st class and the fact that our desert order was misplaced intially proved that the waiters are human after all, well my wife and I would've happily waited for hours for that Chocolate fondant. In fact in was only 20 minutes as first suggested!

The fact that we left our 2 boys ( 5 & 2) with family to get away was in itself not easy, but on leaving Cowley Manor yesterday afternoon is was a feeling of mixed emotions, firstly lets go and see the boys and secondly can't we stay abit longer????

Of course it was a no brainer? Wasn't it? It should've been and yes it was in the end, boys here we come.....

But for that moment it was Woooo what a lovely stay, so much so that my wife and I are hoping to come back in the not to distant future and seeing as there was a child friendly atmosphere we are considering as coming as a family next time.

I felt oblige to drop you an email as people in this day and age are so quick to tweet, email etc about the poor things in life and that this is just as important to mention the great exceptional things also. Well done to you all

Many many thanks.

Yours sincerely
Mr R Lynch

Beautiful country setting, wonderful grounds, house, spa, pool. We enjoyed everything about our stay at Cowley Manor! The atmosphere is very laid back and apart from a couple of rules restricting children to eat in the main restaurant and use the indoor pool after 5.30pm (very reasonable) we were able to enjoy and relax. We ate the hotel most evening but as we were travelling with our 9 year old son we had to opt to eat at the bar, lounge or tv room. It was fun and different from having to seat at a restaurant and the food was excellent. For those looking for activities nearby the hotel we found clay pigeon shooting and rock climbing at 10 minutes drive. I look forward to coming back!!

Just returned from another blissful weekend at cowley manor to celebrate my 30th - as always the staff were so helpful and attentive - we had the best time relaxing, eating and drinking!

Great service and food, fantastic massages and the room was exceptional! They always seem to get it right.....

Got married here last year - if you have recently got engaged can't recommend a more special place to get married!

There is no need for Downton's Branson at this chilled hotel. The staff have created a laid back friendly atmosphere that is perfect. The hotel oozes style with its mix of modern furniture and carpets in this historical building.

There is no michelin star nonsense here. The food is best of british at its finest. Filling, delicious
and by hotel standards ridiculously reasonably priced.

The space containing the indoor pool was so warm that sitting by the pool takes you back to the summer hols. We even made it for a swim in the outdoor heated pool. Not bad for October in the UK.

In the interests of balance I tried to come up with a fault. The only one was the wellies I borrowed for exploring the grounds, leaked when I was wading across a stream. Apart from getting wet socks that is not much is it?

We visited as a family and it was perfect. The hotel can also arrange horse riding but it is best to phone ahead for this.

Room Tip: Stables rooms were lovely.

We booked a lovely room for one night as a little honeymoon before we had to return to work and it was amazing. We were greeted by the most amazing lady (Sonya) on reception who showed us around and took us to our room, she was so helpful and happy it made everything feel so special. We had one of the stable rooms and it beautiful, the products in the room were loved by both my husband and me. We felt spoilt rotten, and the grounds are a lovely walk (especially with the hunter Welles supplied at the front door as the perfect touch).

I honestly couldn't thank Sonya enough, and even though we had not told the hotel is was a mini honeymoon it felt like they were spoiling us as if they knew. I highly recommend staying at this beautiful place if you like being spoilt rotten and left to wonder the grounds without disturbance all at the same time. Oh and the cheeky relaxing herbal tea left on your pillow before bed was the cherry on the already delicious cake :-)
