We went to visit some friends who were staying at the nearby campsite. We don't camp so decided to stay in B&B. Our friends recommended The Fountain, as they have stayed at this campsite and frequented the pub for many years.
We are so glad they did. We arrived in the monsoon conditions but were greeted by such warm and friendly people we didn't care about the weather. The Fountain had a lovely feeling to it, so relaxing and welcoming. The room we stayed in was beautiful, with lovely large windows, overlooking the village. I spent ages just sitting in the window with my book, watching the comical sheep that seem to just wander all over the place.
Michelle showed us up to our room and when we walked in I just felt so comfortable and welcome, such a lovely feeling. I fell in love with the decor, with the floral wallpaper, wonderful colours and designs, I just felt it was so feminine and cosy. The bed was very comfortable and I slept the whole night through, something I don't seem to do often, even at home. The tea and coffee in the room was appreciated, as I love my early morning cuppa.
Breakfast was wonderful, huge and not a problem for me to have vegetarian English Breakfast. The food was hot, with plenty of toast. The service was wonderful, not forced and very natural - like a home from home staying with friends feel to it.
After days of walking and exploring we spent the evenings in the bar with our friends and just talked and talked, Fab beer and wine and totally relaxing atmosphere, it was wonderful. We even went to see a local AmDram, "It Was a Dark and Stormy Night" in the Memorial Hall, which was brilliant.
Michelle told us a bit about the history of The Fountain, its quirks and stories, which was awesome, as I love historical buildings and hearing about their past. We loved it at the Forest of Dean, it is so beautiful and has stolen my heart, to the point that we have bought mountain bikes and plan to return to cycle some of the trails. We walked for miles, lost in the splendour and peace of the forest, to return to see the sheep wandering around, which made us laugh.
Looking forward to our return trip to The Fountain and staying in the beautiful room we stayed in and hopefully many more return trips in the future. Can't wait. Part of me doesn't want to recommend The Fountain because it might mean that we might not be able to get in in the future because it is so popular, but I have to recommend it because it was such a wonderful place, a real gem, leaving us with unforgettable memories - a beautiful and friendly B&B in a beautiful and magical place.
