What a hidden gem this is. We visited on a wet bank holiday Saturday when it was very quiet. Perfect timing for us. All the volunteers from the mini bus driver to the guide were wonderful - so welcoming and knowledgable. The tour of this fascinating and unique house was absolutely fantastic. The park around the house is also beautiful and we loved the bats too.

“A sppoky delight”

Long walk down the hill (transport available) but worth it. This house is amazing, and the history goes back many years. Well worth a visit. They do ghost nights too.... not for me, I'm too scared

“Trip to the never finished Building”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

We had a nice visit to Woodchester. It is very popular with dog owners. There were dogs galore. We used the bus to and from the house because I couldn't do a lot of walking. The volunteers were so friendly and helpful. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the history and build of the house. Nice tea shop and so well supported by volunteers.

“A Beautiful Gothic Building”
Reviewed 19 May 2014

Set in a lovely valley in Gloucestershire, Woodchester Mansion is a beautiful piece of Gothic architecture. Unfinished yet full of mystery as to why/why not and really happened here.
One thing for sure, is that someone close to me was to the win the lottery they would ensure that this building gets finished as they have much love and a strong connection to this building!

“Fascinating unfinished house set in beautiful park”
Reviewed 19 May 2014

Such an unusual place: Intended to be a Gothic mansion, started in the 1800s and abandoned at its owner's death. Preservation efforts have focused on restoring it to its state at his death, not to finishing the job, so it's a way to see the state of architecture at the time. Lots of interesting material on panels and, even better, related in the tour by our engaging guide, Hazel, who has volunteered at the mansion for 19 years. Save time for the eerie, fascinating bat observatory and to walk around the park. Prepare for a bit of a trek from the park entrance or the car park. And bring layers: It gets cold in the mansion even on warm days.
