The hotel's website shows a lovely country manor house. But what it does not show is that the vast majority of rooms are in a dingy new wing that gets conveniently clipped out of the pictures. The website also mentions having a Pimm's outside on the terrace, yet the bar could not make a proper Pimm's Cup. They could only make a Pimm's with lemonade. The website also mentions afternoon tea, but when I requested tea anytime between 3:30-4:30pm on a Friday afternoon I was told the chef was too busy catering to a wedding. Finally, the hot breakfast was not put out until 8:15am, making everyone wait around.

Leta and I were guests at Alison W's recent wedding (see other review), and stayed overnight after the wedding. The wedding breakfast was excellent and the evening buffet was outstanding! All the staff were efficient, friendly and added enormously to the enjoyment of the occasion. The bedroom (in the modern wing) was clean and comfortable, although it was a mystery why the heating was on in the corridors as it was a very warm day! But at least we could wind down the thermostat in the room. All round good value.

My partner and I stayed at Stonehouse Court over the Bank Holiday weekend. I had booked a room at the last minute so we could have a getaway one night break.

Its a lovely place. I love old manor house. It was reasonably easy to find with a decent sized car park.

We were welcomed by a lovely girl called Nicole at Reception. She was friendly, warm and helpful. In fact, that was the main trend with all staff from the maître d to the bar staff. We were made to feel very welcome, and received excellent customer service from all staff. They seem to go the extra mile. The bar man fixed our drinks with a good sense of humour and interesting conversation. Even the cleaners made a point to talk to us.
We had the A La Carte which was reasonably priced. The food we had was truly superb and a delight to eat. Scrummy. We were made to feel very welcome and the Maitre D gave great care and service. We did feel taken care of. Lovely ambience in the Dining room.

We paid £115 for our Double Bed with garden view. Looks like the normal price is £145. The room's furnishing were generally lovely. Great bed and I slept very well. Lovely duvet.
Room in green colour was very restful.

I feel the hotel is reaching the point where they need to do more upkeep to support the cost of the rooms. There were things that let the hotel down a wee bit but could so easily be improved. Sorry I have obviously been watching Hotel Inspector too much. I have also experience of other hotels and B&Bs. This hotel really needs to have a maintenance programme ongoing rather than waiting for a refurb programme. Its probably the case that there is no spare money for that but you need to do it. It certainly looks to be a heavily used hotel. Furniture had been painted in our room but the white formica was showing through in chips in the main gray paint. Curtains on runners needed fixing. Our toilet seat was missing one support pad under the seat. Damp had not been cleaned, bleached or painted in the bathroom. Sealant needed mending. Dried flowers gather spiders webs and dust but had not cleaned in our room. I saw long cobwebs on the wooden stair case that had not been seen. Pictures that were wonky. Touchups on woodwork needed. The lovely wallpaper of lino print hares around the reception shows large gaps where previous woodwork has been taken away but not updated. There is a walkway between the old building and the new. On one side of the walkway is the wonderful vista of the hotel and grounds, on the other is a forgotten and forlorn scrubby area of garden. It really wouldn't take much work to change that area into a garden that was attractive and full of flowers and making use of the old outhouse building. It would be a nice view for the rooms there.

There is so much good customer service going on, it is a shame about the upkeep of the hotel.

In summary, lovely place to stay and fabulous food in restaurant. Breakfast was nice too though it was puzzling to see meat slices for a German style breakfast but no cheese.
We used this location to visit Woodchester and view the ships graveyard at Purton.

Hopefully the hotel will work on its décor upkeep.

Room Tip: Get room with a view of the garden. Tick quiet for room, I would imagine it could get noisy during W...

We recently had our wedding at the hotel and we can not fault the experience! I would definitely recommend this venue for a wedding as the setting is beautiful with lovely gardens and picturesque manor house with really friendly cheerful staff. The whole day came out at a very reasonable price and when compared to other venues it was not only cheaper but lot nicer! The staff were extremely accommodating and every request we made was done straight away with no bother at all. We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights and the room was spacious, clean and warm with a comfy bed. The food for our wedding day was also perfect. Many people commented on how nice it was. The service on the day was impeccable as well as the organising up to our day. I would like to mention Fred and Marion in particular as their service was faultless and I didnt have to worry about a thing as it was all taken care of.

Room Tip: Rooms in the main house are bigger with more charm

I stayed here last week with a friend on a DBB deal with Groupon. We found the hotel very good value for money. It's an attractive building, furnished stylishly, with stunning gardens. The only facilities are a bar and gym, but we knew that before we booked! The staff were exceptionally cheerful, friendly and helpful, to an impressive level. The hotel was a bit on the quiet side, so lacked atmosphere in the evening, but that's my only gripe! The evening meal was good but not excellent. We were happy with it, considering the deal we were on. Breakfast the next morning was excellent with fresh fruit salad available, lovely fresh croissants and cooked breakfast cooked freshly to order. Our room was in the new section and was enormous with a huge bathroom as well. We walked around the gardens the next morning and through the gate at the bottom which led to a stunning canal and sweet little church - all very idyllic. I'm re booking to take my family in September!

Room Tip: Certain rooms have a better view of the garden than others so I'm going to request one next time...

We booked several rooms here for the night before our wedding (which was not at the Stonehouse). We got free upgrades for all of our rooms! All rooms were very spacious and the beds were extremely comfortable. All the staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly. We booked a table for 14 of us to have dinner in the restaurant. It took over an hour for our mains to arrive! This was our only real gripe.

Thank you for your kind comments about your stay with us. I am sorry there was a delay with the food however there was only 3 starters in the group and had to wait for the course to complete before serving the mains. Many thanks for the positive comments about our helpful and friendly team

We booked this through Groupon and it was sold to us as a stay in a 17th Century Manor House, however, on arrival we were directed to our room, the journey to which was arduous to say the least! Up and down stairs and through corridors, which seemed to go on for ever. When we finally got to the room we gained entry but the key got stuck in the lock. When we reported this to reception, we were told, "Room 48?,oh that happens all the time". The room itself was ok but probably built in the 1980s! The shower was just a trickle, the TV was ancient and too low to view, however, thank goodness the bed was comfortable.

On a positive note, the evening meal was good although the dining room was in a poor state of repair, the staff were friendly though not very helpful. All-in-all a very disappointing visit when compared to the publicity information.

On departure we informed the receptionist of our disappointment and was told that the manager would give us a ring - we are still waiting!

Room Tip: Avoid room 48

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry you were disappointed with the visit. We are currently working through a refurbishment programme to upgrade our bedrooms and restaurant. Unfortunately I was on holiday when you stayed and am sorry you received no call at the time, we have rung a number of times since then but not been able to get through. Thank you for the positive comments about the meal
