“Lovely hotel - Basic rooms”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 August 2014

We have stayed in other Village hotels but this one doesn't live up to the high standards of the others. The reception area and restaurant were really nice but the rooms are a huge let down. The bed was very uncomfortable, the room was incredibly hot but with no air con and there was a lot of dust. The rooms need updating to the same standard as the rest of the hotel.

Thank you for your review of the hotel we hope that you enjoyed your stay,

The hotel is currently undergoing an upgrade of all of the bedrooms and should hopefully be completed by 2015.

We hope that we have the opportunity to welcome you back again soon to see the improvements that have been made.

Kindest Regards

I stayed in this hotel on business in July and it was perfectly fine. To be honest I'm probably being a little harsh in my rating but it's a little above average and a little below very good.

The large pool in the leisure centre (visible through massive windows from reception) did seem to make it feel a little humid, and the leisure centre aspect of the place does seem to be the main thrust of the business with an endless stream of locals coming in to use the facility.

The restaurant meal we had on evening one was above expectation, although to be fair the breakfasts were a little below so they kind of cancel out :-)

Room was clean, tidy and well appointed. No complaints there. The rest of the hotel? Perhaps a little in need of a re-fresh, but again nothing that would grate on your nerves.

Overall, fine to be honest - just wouldn't set anyone's hair on fire.

Free wifi available, but didn't work in my room so I had to open the laptop in reception to run emails - that was a niggle.

We've stayed at quite a few Village Urban Hotels, this one seemed a lot smaller than the others. But the building has a lot of character and is warmly decorated.
The room we stayed in was nice, the bathroom was slightly small. The shower was easy to use.
The bed was so comfy.
The bar was spacious and food was served after a short wait.
All the staff we encountered were polite and helpful.

We unfortunately didn't have time to use the pool.

All-in-all it was an enjoyable stay and we would stay again.

The strength of this hotel is with its staff - good service throughout the hotel. The leisure facilities (gym and pool) are good and well equipped. However the room was a disappointment. Tired, drab and in certain areas dusty. Not good enough for a usually reliable brand such as De Vere.

We stayed at this hotel after attending a 40th Birthday party there. The hotel is lovely, clean and the decor is very up to date. The room was very clean, the bed very comfortable and it was quiet during the night. The staff are excellent, friendly and very polite and helpful. The only downside was the resident disco at the event was very loud throughout the event, could have done with being a bit quieter!! We would stay there again though. Excellent facilites as well.

Room Tip: We were on the ground floor, not far from the function room and it was quiet

This hotel deserves a good rating for it's service, but unfortunately the general tiredness of the decor lets it down.
Charlotte was on the front desk as I arrived, and couldn't have been friendlier, more helpful or more professional.
Check in was really quick, and I was given all the info I needed on accessing the health club/pool, breakfast, dinner reservations, etc.
Well done Charlotte - I made a note of your name so that you could get the thanks you deserve.

The room felt a little small compared with other hotels I've stayed in, and desperately in need of updating.
It was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the shower had good water pressure though - so the key elements are there, jsut please modernise a bit.

I did make use of the pool and steam rooms, and the same has to be said for the leisure club - the pool is a great size, the hot tub was also very large, and the steam room was just what I needed - but once again it's all looking a bit tired.
A few broken tiles, dirty grout, dated decor...
This could be so much better with a bit of investment.

I ate in the restaurant, which also deserves a special mention.
The roasted butternut squash and pearl barley starter was most definitely the best vegetarian starter I've ever eaten, outside of a Michellin starred or specialised vegetarian restaurant.
I could have eaten nothing but this, and was given the recipe by the floor manager for the restaurant.
The staff again deserve a mention, as the service was faultless - friendly, attentive - fantastic.
Unfortunately I don't remember names this time (I blame the wine), but well done, and thank you!

my only regret is that I'm back again next week, but I know the menu has changed - so there'll be no butternut squash this time

damn!

Room Tip: ask for a refurbed room (if they have one?)

fantastic news you enjoyed our stay, as always our staff will do their very best to provide the best service for you.
Some of our bedrooms and leisure club are undergoing some refurbishments at the moment so hopefully these issues will be solved very soon.
On you next stay why not try one of our upperdeck bedrooms for £20 upgrade charge, i feel they may suit you more.

Kind Regards and we look forward to welcoming you back very soon.
