“Better in winter”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 July 2013

I stayed here one night, from 17th to 18th July, 2013. According to a site which offers lower prices for last-minute bookings, I understood I had got a bargain at GBP 49, but I see that there are offers of as little as GBP 21 available on the hotel site. The hotel is situated in an ugly and featureless area right next to a busy commuter road. You can reach it by taking the no. 33 bus for GBP 2.10 from Piccadilly park, which is about ten minutes' walk from Piccadilly station, or by taxi - about GBP 6. The receptionists were most friendly and helpful. My room, no. 310, was on the second floor, and there was no lift - but the receptionist, a young lady, offered to carry my case up for me, which I gladly accepted. The room was clean, pleasant, spacious and functional. It was a very hot day in the current heat wave. The window was ajar to let in some fresh air, but there was a mechanism to stop it being opened properly. After returning from a visit to Manchester in the evening, I had the choice between leaving the window a little open for some fresh air but being disturbed all night by the continuous stream of loud traffic in the road right next to the hotel, or closing the window and turning the room into a sauna, because there was no air-conditioning. I opted for the second and, with the addition of ear plugs, eventually fell asleep bathed in sweat.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the opposite side, not on to the road.

Our original chosen hotel was accidentally overbooked and we were relocated here by the manager. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. The room/bathroom was clean although I found it a little depressing, rather tired, with a less than inspiring view of a car park. I've stayed at Campanile Hotels in Liverpool and in France and found them to be much more pleasant. That said, there is nothing 'wrong' with this hotel, it just wasn't the nicest room.

The room was fine, quite big, clean, with everything needed - bedside table would be the only improvement I'd like in a room for this price. I've certainly stayed in worse for more money.

The free parking is a bonus, and the hotel is quite close to various attractions such as the Museum of Science and Technology as well as the city centre.

Food was quite adequate, reasonably varied continental breakfast. Service was a bit peculiar - the restaurant and bar weren't busy at all but the waitress struggled, I was even asked that as my soup was delayed (my husband had been served), would I mind having the soup after the main course. A fair few items on the menu were unavailable.

Still, pretty good location, clean room, good-enough food - decent value for the price, although not as good as Campaniles in France we've stayed at. Would use again.

good 3 star hotel, terrible location. the staff always tell me 'walk' because there is no bus nearby!

Stayed to see Robbie Williams. Their excuse for everything being poor / late etc was "we are very busy this weekend you know" . they should have brought in extra staff to deal with it. Terrible service and not all thAt clean either

When I was booked into a two star hotel in Salford for Business I was thinking, hmmm this looks ominous. So with very low expectations I was extremely pleased to find a friendly little hotel, with lots of parking, a pleasant room, simple but fine, and a bar and restaurant. I ate at the hotel and whilst the receptionist was also the waiter, I received good service and the quality of food was not bad. This is not the hilton but value for money is great and I would stay here again on business or for a stop over. Overall, Good location, good parking, nof thrills no fuss hotel. I was also staying on the night of the Robbie concert and it was fine!

We paid £95 for our double room at the campanile which was the only room we could get in to in manchester this weekend as Robbie Williams was playing and everything was booked up. We will DEFINITELY NOT return! The hotel looked ok from the outside, reception and corridors until we got into our room. Bath with random hairs, grout missing in the tiles, pink mould all over the grout that wasn't missing and a stain on the bed that looked like blood. Tea making facilities that weren't worth touching topped off the list of annoyances during this stay after I woke up this morning to a deafening vibration sound as my partner flushed the toilet. £95 literally thrown away and this is the regular room rate, not even upped due to the Robbie concert (luckily we weren't here for that!). For that money I expect at least a clean room, malmaison is only £4 more!!!
