This is a gem of a pub. It seems that a year doesn't pass without it winning awards for the selection and quality of its traditional ales, on top of which there is a bewildering array of Belgian and German beer in bottles and on tap. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable, and at lunchtime they serve basic but perfectly good food. If the kitchen isn't open, you're welcome to bring food in from the very good deli next door.
I think the best thing about this pub though is the people. It is a community pub first and foremost, but not in a way that is intimidating or unwelcoming for first time visitors. The pub's locals are representative of the community it serves. People of all trades and professions (and none) drink here, students, pensioners, foreign workers, you name it. The pink pound is more than welcome here too.
Tim and Paulette are the owners, and fine and generous hosts they are. They are quite rightly proud of what they have achieved in the 5 or 6 years since they came over from Ireland, and they are always willing to talk enthusiastically to anybody about their excellent pub and its excellent beer.
It's only fair that I declare my interest. This is the pub I've chosen to make my local for the past 5 years.
