Came down to Andover for work and got put up in this hotel.

It's tidy enough, however the furniture is very old and battered. They charge £2 an hour for wifi which is excessive when you have already paid for your room.
There also was no soap in the bathroom, so had to use my shower gel just to wash my hands after the toilet!
Breakfast was simple and lukewarm.
Don't think I would stay here again

Thank you for your review.

We mave new management and are renovating much of the Hotel. However, we do not especially want to have a "modern" hotel. With the fantqstic scenery of Andover and the surrounding woodland it is the ideal quiet retreat. The hotel has character and we do not want to lose that.

At least the room was relatively clean, although it looked a little tired. The best thing that can be said of the hilariously named Quality Hotel is that at least it's near the town centre so you can get out and eat. I was forced to stay here due to my normal hotel being fully booked and will drive miles if it happens again rather than stay here. The food was only served in a depressing bar and was average at best. The level of service depends on who is on duty - the guy as good, the woman was hopeless and I noticed a number of desperate faces while she was messing everything up. The same applied for breakfast - coffee, toast etc. all delivered quickly when the man was serving. However, when female member of staff was on, I walked into breakfast to find four tables occupied while every other table was uncleared from previous occupants. I then waited for any sight of her and when she appeared she completely ignored everyone so no toast or coffee. However, the worst part of my week from hell was the paper thin walls that allowed me to hear every word from a room next door. Unfortunately this hotel seems to be popular with tradesmen of various sorts who all like to have 'a few beers' on Thursday night so you can imagine the noise from everywhere especially as it was in the middle of the world cup! As for the price, not worth half!

Room Tip: Go to another hotel!

You certainly seem to have a poor opinion of our female staff. Perhaps it did not occur to you that the female may have been a new staff member. We all have to settle into new jobs, no matter who we are. Apart from your comments no one else has made adverse comments regarding the difference in male and female staff.

All our guests are more than welcome to eat meals in the restaurant. This is why if you are not happy with something it is very advisable to report it to reception so we can address the issue for you and rectify the problemat the time.

The Quality Hotel is billed as a 'charming country house hotel with superb bar and restaurant' and whilst the history of the building may be such, it now bears little to support this. The hotel appeared to be tired, dated and run down but to be fair, it was generally clean.

However, at breakfast on the first morning, there were no clean tables for us to sit at. We asked the only member of staff who appeared to be on duty to have a table cleared and re-laid. We left him for a few minutes and when we returned, the waiter had nearly laid the full table on the dirty cloth which had food and tea stains on it. Once we did get sat up with a clean cloth, the pot of tea served was plonked on the table and the fullness caused the tea to come out the spout and we were back to square one again having a dirty cloth before we had even started our own breakfast.

The cooked breakfast consisted of two stainless steel warmers containing sausages, beans, bacon, hash browns and scrambled egg prepared in advance. Asked for some fried eggs to go with our breakfast as the watery scrambled egg did not look too appealing and was told they did not do them. There was the remains of fresh fruit, rolls, cheese and yoghurts but the selection was sparse and was not topped up for those of us eating a later breakfast. However, this did improve during our 4 night stay.

The room was basic and cold at night. We did have a blanket in the cupboard which helped. Generally speaking we had a quiet room apart from all the squeaky door hinges in our room and others along the corridor which was annoying. Also, there was a wedding party on Saturday and the music played until midnight. We got back to the hotel from our night out at 11.45 pm so it did not bother us, but bear this in mind if you book when they have a wedding on and plan to to sleep earlier.

On Saturday morning I asked for an iron and ironing board to be delivered to our room while we were at breakfast. The reception said they did not deliver to rooms so picked it up after breakfast. The ironing board did not go up properly and was very wobbly. The cover had burn marks and was dirty which was not ideal for the two new white shirts I had to iron. The settings on the iron were worn out and not visible, there was a lump in the cord and no evidence of PAT Testing of the appliance. Whilst trying to adjust the board, it collapsed and broke. I phoned reception to see what they could do. They told me the other ironing board was on loan, but they did not have a record of which room had borrowed it to see if they had finished with it. I explained that I needed to do some ironing quickly as we had to be out in less than an hour. Reception said they would send someone up to look at the board and see what could be done. The man who arrived said he had come to look at the iron and we told him it was the board which had collapsed in two. He apologised and said he would throw it away which was of no help to me with two pairs of trousers to press and two new shirts to iron, so I ended up driving to a friends to do our ironing.

The location of this hotel is quite good for walking into Andover town centre, but it is slightly uphill on the way back and only partially lit on the latter part of Micheldever Road which is wooded and no houses so I wouldn't fancy walking back up on my own late at night.

We usually stay at the Travelodge and are happy to use basic accommodation. However, as we were staying with another family at the same time, we thought it would be nice to have the chance to breakfast together in the hotel. Overall, it really was not worth the extra price we paid and would not purposefully choose to stay again. I do not feel able to recommend this hotel to others as a 'charming country house hotel' as their write up suggests.

Thank you for your review.

The breakfast would not be replenished if it was near to the end of the breakfast period. However, as you say the breakfasts improved during your stay.

I have informed management with regard to the ironing board.

With regard to PAT testing, we are under contract with a firm that also attend to many hospitals up and down the Country. Some appliances do not require PAT testing but some guests do not appreciate this. More often than not the labels wear off but we have all the appliances that have been PAT tested on computer.

Booked for two nights as a couple house-hunting as we move from Wales to Andover as a relocation. Internet access was a must for us as we are searching for houses however astronomical charges and difficult connectivity made this an impossibility. Bedroom walls really thin so we were up for a lot of the night due to the volume on our neighbouring room's TV followed by a loud conversation at 4am. Not the hotel's fault but flimsy walls didn't help this. TV in the room couldn't get signal, water didn't drain from bath adequately, toilet roll holder fell off the wall, rooms not cleaned ( spider and cobwebs on the side of the bedside cabinet ) no tea left in the room. Simply the coldest most horrible breakfast you can imagine served on plates and cutlery that needed throwing out and replacing. The grime around the cups and the teapots meant that I didn't have a cup of tea at all because they didn't put any in our room either. The man who had been behind reception and the bar handled our complaint as well as can be expected and he was actually brilliant. Wasted in this dump of a hotel. We advised him that he'd be better off making a career change by going somewhere where his skills could go to good use and he'd be a more valued employee. His cheerful manner was the only and I mean the ONLY good thing about this hotel. Needless to say we cancelled our second night and went to the Holiday Inn in Amesbury which has been absolutely fantastic and I can't recommend it highly enough.

Although you have written a long review you fail to mention whether all these concerns were reported to the Hotel? I have looked in the receord book and certainly there is not entry.

I have just replied to a review on the same day where they say the breakfast was good and hot and you are saying it was cold. You do not say what time you attended breakfast but it is unusual for the food to be cold as it is presented on hot plates.

We can only resolve an issue if we are made aware at the time not on departure with sarcastic remarks to make your points.

Very clean hotel room. Thought it was unfair that you have to pay £2, a hour for Internet, if you have a large family it would cost a fortune. Breakfast was good and hot, but need more staff to helpas 1 person is not enough when it's busy.

Room Tip: Choose the new part

We stayed here the first weekend in August for a family wedding. Staff had been helpful when I had phoned prior to the stay and when we arrived as we needed to get changed our rooms were already ready although it was before the check in time. In total we had 12 rooms booked and everyone had a reasonably comfortable nights sleep and the rooms were clean and just right for what we wanted. Breakfast was fine although the dining room could have been bigger. All in all, staff were good and I would use it again for an overnight stay
