“Ideal Weekend Away”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 March 2014

First impressions of the hotel are great. You are made to feel welcome and at home from the moment you arrive.

As you would expect from a Four Seasons hotel, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful and happy to attend to your every request.

The rooms are large but are in need of updating. We were shown three different rooms before we settled on one we liked as the first 2 were dark and a long walk from reception. The shower in the room was pitiful and we ended up using the showers in the spa as they were far more powerful.

The food in the main restaurant was excellent accompanied well by the wine recommended by the sommelier.

The spa was very relaxing although it did get loud by the pool when there were a large number of children in it.

All in all, a very enjoyable place to spend a weekend.

This is the first time I've stayed at this hotel, I couldn't get a room anywhere else. This hotel is at the upper end of my budget £260.0 a night.

On arrival I was met at the door and shown to check in, first impressions was of a very professionally run hotel. All staff were very polite and helpful. I received an upgrade to my room and I wasn't disappointed. Great decor in keeping with country house surroundings, comfortable and well appointed room, large bed top quality linen and towels, good mini bar.

I dined in the bar, this area was again very well decorated and made to feel relaxing and comfortable, bar staff were attentive. My dinner was very nice, well presented dishes and portion sizes just right. There is also a Bistro and formal restaurant for fine dining.

I had a great nights sleep, breakfast is either continental buffet or a la carte. I chose from the menu and my Eggs Benedict was great.

A great stay, but obviously you get what you pay for, I plan to go back with my wife for a relaxing weekend and to explore the hotel and it's grounds further.

I came here for a one day business conference but would love to return with my wife. Out in the middle of rolling hills and beautiful farms, this manor house hotel has everything you need, including a hotel dog. A guest asked directions to a walking path, they fitted him with a pair of Wellies and sent him off. The rooms are spacious, staff is excellent and just another reason to always stay at a four seasons if you can.

We were very politely and professionally greeted in reception and were taken to our Garden King room by the receptionist and showed how everything worked. Lovely size room and excellent bathroom with separate shower and toilet. Only downside of the room was that the window was really small which meant that the room was rather dark and it was difficult to get much air in through the window.
The hotel is large and it takes a while to get your bearings but there are lots of signs to help. The spa was fantastic, everything you might ever need was provided from robes to towels to newspapers, fruit, rainfall showers and all the lotions etc you could possibly imagine. We borrowed bikes and were given bottles of water to take with us ! We played tennis on one of their 2 courts which were ok but showing signs of the recent flooding which was understandable.
There are plenty of areas to chill and we didn't see any children at all.
We had dinner in the restaurant one night. I would say that it is over priced , one small glass of Chablis for £11. The service was again very professional.
Breakfast was excellent, again everything you could possibly want and, if it was not there, you only had to ask.

Dear Guest,
I'm delighted to read that you spent a relaxing two night stay with us recently, enjoying both the Spa facilities and Tennis. I'm pleased to report that the courts have now dried out following all the storms and that the Estate has a spring feel!

I've been in the hotel for a summit. The hotel staff were all helpful, the room was big, comfortable and clean, but the greatest thing was the food.
The location is a bit of a challenge if you don't drive there yourself, but it's well worth it, as when you do get there, you are in a quiet, beautiful area.
The entire stay was very pleasant and stress free.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your kind review. I'm pleased to learn that you particularly highlight the quality of the food you experienced during the summit. With regard to travelling to the Hotel we suggest our guests travel into Fleet station which is under an hour from London Waterloo. It is then a short 10 minute journey by taxi onto the Hotel.
We hope to welcome you back to our countryside setting in the future.
With kind regards,
Charlie Parker

Finding this hotel by car is a bit of a mission, especially at night. Bizarrely, given they're in the middle of nowhere, the sign at the entrance (up a long drive) isn't lit and nor is any part of the drive. Not brilliant in the dark in the wettest winter in 300 years. But it's worth the minor hassle as this is generally a very good hotel indeed.

Rooms are large and comfortable as you'd expect of a Four Seasons hotel and they're well maintained. There are nice touches - L'Occitane soaps, a free newspaper and a free overnight shoeshine service. And the staff are friendly, the best being the local staff who deliver great service with understated enthusiasm and a nice line in humour.

The place itself is a bit of a maze and it takes a while to get used to it but once you do it's fine. There's an excellent spa, 'pool and wellness 'pool and all are well used by local folk who are unfailingly friendly. The breakfast room is down a slightly strange staircase and is rather dark, anonymous and uninviting in a 'dark wood modern fit-out' sort of way; but the food was good and the views lovely.

But I think that's the problem and why I didn't give this lovely hotel 5 stars: it lacks personality.

It's very good and I had a restful and pleasurable stay, but there's nothing to make me want to rush back. It lacks that 'something' which the really great hotels have; that feeling that makes you want to re-book as soon as you've gotten home.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed review. I'm glad that you found both the property and setting beautiful and that we delivered great service. It's a shame though that you felt the Hotel lacked personality despite all our local touches. I sincerely hope that you will consider visiting us again despite this observation.
