“A Unique Countryside Hotel”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

We decided to split our recent trip between London proper and the countryside. The Four Seasons had been recommended to us and it did not disappoint.

For starters, the setting is tremendous. You feel like you are on Dowton Abbey visiting the country home of your rich friends. The service was superlative. All of the staff were very knowledgeable about what was going on in the surrounding area. The staff also took great care of our 9 year old daughter. All in all, a level of service equivalent to the best Four Seasons.

Now the best part is what you can do around there. We were a little worried that there would not be much to do. We were totally wrong. There are enough places to visit within about 45 minutes drive time (i.e. Windsor Castle, Stonehenge, Winchester, Jane Austen's House etc.) that you could easily fill up a full week visiting the sites.

We also worried about dining. We were also wrong on that. The hotel restaurants are superb (and we could have spent hours having drinks on the terrace off of the bar). And there are quite a few nearby places that you should try. Best of these was The Gamekeepers which was tremendous.

The activities at the hotel were among the best of any hotel. My daughter spent quite a bit of time at the riding academy riding the horses. This was top notch. A brand new facility with great horses. I also went skeet shooting on the hotel grounds (too much fun). And we used the hotels bikes to go riding around the countryside.

All in all a great experience. We would definitely go back again.

Always wanted to come here & my husband surprised me with Champagne Afternoon tea on the way home from a weekend away.

Set in beautiful grounds, our table at the window in the library was amazing. Afternoon tea was delightful & the ambience relaxing & classy so dress to impress. As it was a birthday treat, they brought me out a birthday plate of truffles, very nice touch.

We had a look round the hotel & the spa as plan to come back for a weekend.

It's not a bargain, but then you wouldn't expect it to be, would you?

Tip: the sandwiches get replenished - yum!

We stayed here for one night when we needed to be in Hampshire. The service was fantastic and the staff very considerate. We had a small child with us and they had been extremely thoughtful in arranging everything perfectly for him. They gave us extremely early check in which made a huge difference for us.

Service in the bar (including food) was slightly slow, whereas the service at breakfast was much better.

The spa treatments were not as good as other hotels I have stayed in (and, since it is a hotel, they are quite costly). That was the only thing that let it down slightly (although the spa and gym facilities are amazing).

The hotel has an amazing feel and appearance and its website photos do not do it justice at all. The other guests were all charming.

Room Tip: We had a relatively basic room (I did not book it) and it was absolutely perfect and extremely good...

This is a beautiful hotel with a quintessential English country house style. From the moment we entered the gates onto the driveway over the fields we were enthralled. This experience was enhanced by the warm welcome of the staff, From that moment the staff were discrete in the manner in which they made our stay memorable. No request or question was ignored. The attention to detail in servicing the room was impressive. The room was large and beautifully decorated. The marble bathroom was a treat and the dressing room and place to store luggage out of sight all contributed to the ambience of this hotel We enjoyed a peaceful and restful experience and were able to entertain our friends in style.

From the moment we walked in to the hotel to the moment we left we were extremely well looked after by the staff, having a relative working there made the stay more special by all members of staff. We stayed the week Royal Ascot was on so there was a good atmosphere within the hotel anyway. We arrived very early in the morning and was greeted by a really helpful receptionist who took our details and bags and said our room would be ready by 11am which it was, she said we could explore the grounds till the room was ready. We went down to the new equestrian centre which looks amazing which is set in to the hills of the vast grounds Four Seasons has. When we were escorted to our room where it was lovely inside, the bathroom was kitted out in marble with a huge bath and shower and we had a view overlooking the fishing lake at the back of the house. Maxine the manager left a very nice touch within the room with a card and personalised cake as it was our 1st wedding anniversary. We went down to the spa and was amazed how lovely the changing rooms were, so much available to you to relax in and pamper yourself, free drinks and apples were on hand. The spa staff were very helpful and took us round and showed us where everything was and made us feel at home. We went to the outside giant relaxing pool where in each section of it you had Jacuzzi seats to bubble areas to massage your feet and swan necks with massage water. The food available to you poolside is unbelievable and the guy that managers it is so full of enthusiasm and passion for the food he serves. We had the Thai curry which was filling and both really really tasty and I would go back just for that! After relaxing by the pool for a good few hours we went to the changing rooms where they have relaxing beds for you to chill in or these fantastic showers where you can relax. An arrange of creams and hair products were on offer to you after you had your shower. We then went outside and went for a bike ride on their mountain bikes they have available to all ages and went on a 4 mile ride around the estate which I really enjoyed.
In the evening we had a table booked in the main restaurant and this is where we received exceptional service. Sophie who was our waitress was so lovely and welcoming we couldn’t fault her, she made us feel really special and especially as it was our first wedding anniversary as well. We were also well attended by the restaurant manager as well who took time to talk to us and made sure we were okay. The food was exceptional as you would expect and we were so stuffed we couldn’t eat no more. Although the pastry chef was very kind and put together a slate with a cake on it and wishing us well which is a lovely touch. Cyril the chef came out to speak with us which was lovely and we got to talk about the food he had created that evening which is nice to hear the passion people have. After the meal we were escorted to one of the main rooms were England were playing and we had a seat already set out for us where our champagne was set aside for us. The gentleman who escorted us had been transferred from Hawaii and he was a really nice guy.
What was a nice touch was the complimentary shoe shine they offer, leave your shoes out and they will clean them for you and have them back by 7am the next morning – This impressed me a lot!!!!

Over all what a lovely stay and we shall be back – In fact we’re coming back for afternoon tea this week.

We treated ourselves to one night here and are now kicking ourselves as we have set the bar so high for future travel!

The hotel is quite simply stunning, service is attentive, unpretentious and sincere.

From the initial welcome at reception until the time we departed we were treated like valued guestsand nothing was too much trouble. Our room was large with a gorgeous marble bath (which comes as standard) and the toiletries are by L'OCCITANE which is a personal favourite.

The only slight negative was the restaurant, Breakfast was lovely but dinner choices on the Friday we stayed were slightly limited as it was ' fish Friday'.

The spa is large and clean with a gorgeous pool, although treatments are expensive ( as to be expected at Four Seasons)

I can't wait to go back, it really is a breathtaking venue.

Dear Guest,
How wonderful that you refer to our property as 'simply the best hotel you have ever stayed in'. What an accolade! It seems a shame that you felt restricted by the menu during FiSH Friday - guests are more than welcome to select from our regular Bistro menu on a Friday evening too.
We look forward to welcoming you back to our 'breathtaking venue' in the future.
