“Disappointing Hotel for the price”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 October 2010

Stayed down in the Portsmouth area for the Great south Run and due to a friend's illness was forced to find a hotel at short notice. we were very ,limited on choice and found one of the only local hotels with a room for the night before the run. It was easy to find with good parking, which was free despite what the hotel website states, so that was a nice welcome. The reception staff were friendly although not really interested, although they were a bit off when we said that we would not be dining in their restaurant. We were directed to our room but not wished a pleasant stay or anything. The room seemed OK at first although the bed was clearly not level. Upon using the bathroom it was clear that it had not been cleaned very well, there were stains on the sink, limescale in the bath and the sink and the towel rail had been cleaned whilst hot so looked very dirty. when taking a bath the dirt, stains and scale on the tiles was very visible and underneath the sink there were many stains. Not very pleasant.

The bed was old and soft and neither of us slept very well.

In the morning I took the kettle out of its basket to make some tea, there were stains on the kettle and the teaspoon had not been washed. The remains of the previous resident's coffee and sugar were all over it.

Upon checking out, we weren't asked if our stay was comfortable and I suspect that our feedback form was discarded, although I hope not.

This hotel has potential, a little more effort in cleaning and a bit more of a friendly approach would really improve it.

Arrived at 5.30pm on Saturday night to go to a surprise birthday party, on a very tight schedule.
Shocked on unpacking our clothes to find dirty underwear and clothes in a drawer, so we then had a closer look at the room and bedding and found it had not been changed from previous occupant.
Also dirty crockery in the courtesty refreshement basket and no milk.
Phoned reception, they were good and put everything right, (they even brought clean towels, they obviously knew they had not been changed), we were in dressing gowns trying to get ready for party, it was like an episode of Fawlty Towers!!
We paid full price for this, poor value for money.

We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. We were very impressed with the staff, all who seemed to be working as a team, and who wanted to be there. On our first evening we sat in the bar, and chose our menu. We were escorted to our table where we had a most excellent meal, consisting of Mussels with olives and bacon in a great sauce, followed by a fillet steak (£7 extra), medium rare, that was cooked to perfection. On another evening, we had smoked trout as a starter followed by roast pork. We were told that they smoke their own fish, and the trout was again so good. The pork was also very full of flavour.
Good food and friendly sums up this hotel

I booked this hotel for 2 nights 25-27 June 2010, I’m one for relaxing of an evening but on the first evening there was an extremely lively wedding reception taking place, the bar area resembled a busy pub of a Saturday night, the beer garden, for hotel guests, was literally a ‘no go’ area, wedding guests everywhere, and overall it ruined my evening.

I understand that the hotel revenue significantly from such a function but they also need to appreciate that hotel guests are their bread & butter, other such hotels I have stayed in may have private area(s) specifically off-limits to non hotel guests, reserved for guests, however this wedding party had, literally, taken over all public areas of the hotel.

I was allocated room 4 in the older part of the hotel, the room was adequate, a dirty cup in the hospitality tray and hairs on the bathroom floor that were too long to have been mine. This was a very hot summer night, impossible to sleep without the window open, below the window was the bottle recycling bank, staff would be dumping bottles, crash, bang, wallop, until late in the evening and then, at 0645 in the morning, there was a truck delivery, voices below, the rumbling of trolley(s ) across the tarmac followed by the crash, bang, wallop of more dumping of bottles, at 7 o’clock in the morning!

The soundproofing between these old building rooms is insufficient, on my second morning I was woken by noises and creaking floorboards from the next room and they really do need some room door closing mechanisms, as each room door closes, perhaps starting at 7 o’clock of a morning, there is a significant noise that seems to make the walls shake.

So for my 2 nights stay I didn’t manage to sleep in beyond around 0645 on both mornings, I would stay at this hotel again but I’m not in a hurry to do so!

We stayed at the Brookfield Hotel over the May bank holiday weekend. All aspects of our stay was very good. The staff were friendly, polite and very helpful, the rooms were clean and cosy and the food was very good - we had dinner, bed and breakfast and all meals were tasty and of a good quality. There is a lovely garden area at the rear of the hotel.
The hotel is an excellent place to stay to visit the coast around the Portsmouth area - easy access to all roads and close to the quay in the lovely town of Emsworth.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone if they want a comfortable and friendly hotel.

Lots of parking, a great bed (pillows nothing special), nice bathroom and free wi-fi are good points.

The very limited range basic breakfast was ok, but I was surprised to be charged £11-50 for it, as I thought it came with the room charge (not particularly cheap at £73).

The dining room at breakfast was soul-less, with no background music and you could hear everyones conversations clearly.
