I stayed here for one night. It is a straightforward hotel.

Big room which could be modernised . Apart from that - good basic and pleasant enough. For the price its good - akin to Travelodge prices but above a great pub and with a good breakfast. (lots of it!!)

Filthy. Just plain filthy. The carpets, room, bathroom were all a disgrace.
Breakfast starts at 07.30 ......unless it starts at 08.35 because that is when the staff arrive.

The Crown Hotel was nicely located (right on the high street, five minute walk from the train station) and was clean for a budget hotel. The walls are paper-thin though, and the rooms are over a noisy pub and outdoor beer-garden. Don't expect a peaceful night sleep if you can't sleep through thumping bass and loud party-goers.

I was initially checked into Room 9 which is so small that the bed virtually touches the walls all the way around. This is not so bad, but then I realised that just outside the window was the kitchen ventilation fan which is very loud. So I asked for another room and was put in Room 3 which is a good size, but very basic. I decided not to eat in the hotel, the bar was empty and decor very dated and didn't seem like a very nice place to spend more than a few minutes. All was OK until I used the shower in the morning - it was without doubt the worst shower I've ever been in; a dribble of uncontrollable lava-hot water which I couldn't stand underneath as it burnt my head. I dabbed my scorched head with the crispy old towels provided. Breakfast was a pretty miserable affair; no sugar or milk on the table for my tea so I had to go hunting, there was a nice big jar of vinegar though which was a nice touch. The full-English was the type where the sausage is all squashy and doesn't seem to have much meat in it. I mentioned the shower on check-out and got the "no-one has complained before" answer, rather than a "sorry" which might have cheered me up a bit.

The Crown is a nice old pub in the centre of Emsworth. However everywhere but the bar is in desperate need of renovation or at least a jolly good clean. We stayed on a Saturday night in a double room (No. 1) which was a good size room but quite chilly as there was only one heater. The carpet definitely needs replacing and the bathroom needs a deep clean and a lot of renovation. The heated towel rail was not working, the toilet roll holder was hanging off, the shower screen was filthy. However the staff are very pleasant and there is no rush to leave the room on a Sunday morning. Breakfast was really good with the additional joy of Costa coffee as opposed to the usual weak awfulness that one usually gets. There is only an hour slot for breakfast between 8.00 - 9.00 a.m. even on Sunday which is a bit harsh!

The upstairs smelled of smoke, so someone somewhere is smoking which does tend to hang around in a old building. The decor and carpets in the common areas upstairs are in need of a good clean or replacing.

In summary this could be a really quaint place to stay especially as it is in the centre of the village but it needs money spent. The housekeeping is very much in need of attention and soon.

We stayed here for one night on the way home from Dorset and my partner fancied the idea of a haunted hotel (there's 4 ghosts alledgedly). We stayed in room 3 which is supposed to be haunted by a ghost of lady. We didn't see anything (luckily for me but not for him). Room desperately needs updating and was very small but bed was comfy enough (although the mattress protector underneath was pretty horrible to sleep on).
However the staff were really friendly and helpful. The food was fantastic. We had the special lamb rump at only £9..fabulous!! Plus breakfast was great too.
The pub was lovely. All beams and atmosphere. We'd stay in room 11 next time though as it sounded much bigger/more attractive..and hopefully I'd get some sleep not worrying about any ghosts wandering around the bed!!

After being booked into the travelodge four marks by my company and then reading the reviews for it I cancelled the booking and found the last room at the crown...
when I arrived the friendly staff booked me in and gave me my keys to room 11 I must say I didn,t expect a room with so much style for such a small price £50 A little door that looked like it was from the set of " The hobbit " or " Alice in wonderland " the only thing missing was a little plate of cakes saying eat me.. Im 6 foot tall And had to stoop down to enter the room, It was dark so I found te light switch and WOW a masive room with a big double bed, The vaulted ceiling was held up with huge oak beems. The staff were friendly and polite, Food good and hot, Breakfast was hot and filling I would highly recomend this hotel and I will go there again
