Reviewed 25 March 2013 via mobile

Went to a Golden Wedding anniversary meal, it cannot be faulted. We had a choice of three courses to pre-select, the choice was by good. All food was well presented and very well cooked. Can honestly say never felt rushed at all, the waiting staff worked very hard but all had a smile on their faces. If you want a special meal this is the place to go, the main menu very varied and something to suit all tastes. Would definitely recommend this for a special occasion

Staff pleasant on arrival. Rooms not bad decor wise. Dated but cleanish. Got woke up around 1am with what can only be described as a "sumo wrestling match upstairs". The noise continued severely until just after 6am. Phoned and complained at 4am to the staff, but to b honest, this made no difference!! Eventually got to sleep about 7am. I would love to have had breakfast so I could leave some kind of positivity in this review. But slept right through breakfast service!!!!!!!!! Would never stay at this hotel again. ( unless they supply industrial ear defenders as standard). :-(

Room Tip: Rooms are far too noisy. We personally got no sleep

I can only apologise that you had a bad experience with us. Unfortunately, on the night in question we did have some inconsiderate guests stay with us in the room above you. Our night porter did speak to them and was assured that they would keep the noise down. The problem you encountered is neither a regular occurrence nor a true reflection of the service we offer. We always try to do everything in our power to ensure our guests have a pleasant experience with us, and I am truly sorry that this was not the case on this occasion.

Booked a table for 11 friends for Sunday lunch, the menu was excellent staff very helpful and friendly. We have used Lysses many times and will most certainly continue. It is also a great place to meet friends for coffee and bar snacks. The new decor is brilliant. Thank you.

Booked a celebration lunch for 4 for my Mum's 90th birthday. The hotel and restaurant staff couldn't have been more helpful. I dropped a cake off the night before and reserved a table and room in the lounge/bar.
Turned up for lunch; cake and table had been presented in situ and we had a lovely lunch from fixed 3 course menu. Food was excellent and Mums dessert arrived with Happy Birthday message piped on plate. Nice personal touch and service.
Highly recommended and Mum loved it. Thank you.

I stay here frequently on business and tend to chose the Lysses over the other local hotels.

Pros
Friendly staff
Excellent breakfast - cooked to order, no hot plates
Use of local LA fitness with classes, weights, CV and pool
Large bedrooms
Big, deep baths
Clean
Quiet
Easy access to local restaurants

Cons
Room decor a bit dated
Beds a bit soft and squidgy

All in all, excellent value for money, especially in comparison with grossly overpriced chain hotels.

We stayed here one night for a wedding. The staff did a great job of handling a difficult situation with a guest and nothing was too much trouble (apart from the guest). The hotel is in a good position in Fareham, the beds were comfortable and I slept well. The wedding breakfast was fine and the breakfast the following morning offered a good choice. The hotel itself is in need of a make-over whether it be in the rooms & en-suites or the communal area. We had a family room which just about fitted us all in.

Thank you for review regarding the hotel. We totally agree with your comments. Being a small hotel, we refurbish our rooms one at a time and as you can imagine it is a continuing process. One of our family rooms, bedroom 2, is the next room due to be refurbished, hopefully before the end of the year. The lounge, bar, ground floor reception area and main stairs are currently being refurbished as we speak. The hotel is closed until the 9th November as we have some major work being undertaken including a new bar and reception desk. Our ground floor bedroom corridor is also having a make over during this time. Keep a look out on our facebook page and website for up to date news and photos. We hope to see you again in the future to see our new look.

I stay here at least 1-2 times a year since 2009 for 4-5 days at a time and the staff have always been top-notch. I arrived on a very early flight and they made the effort to get a room cleaned for an early check-in and I was able to rest and recover easily from jet lag. It's always good to see the same faces as you don't always get that in larger chains. Yes, the building is quite old with thin walls, but my visits are normally quite hectic, and I always sleep like a rock at nights. I prefer this hotel over any others in the general area and it's very easy to go out for dining and shopping as well.
