Diane and her team give great, friendly service, they are attentive without being in your face and thank you for moving us to another table without even being asked, that is good customer service. Adrian, her chef, produces great home cooked pub grub, I had ham, egg and chips and Steven had a fillet steak with mushrooms, tomatoes, onion rings and chips (Adrian doesn't do small portions be warned go with an appetite). Everything is home made including the onion rings and the chips are the best I have tasted in years, chunky and at least twice cooked so wonderfully crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle, yummy. Being greedy, we tried to share a ginger syrup sponge and custard, with stem ginger, light as a feather, even the two of us couldn't manage all of it but it was wonderful as was Steven's fillet steak, cooked perfectly and cut like butter. This is definitely on our favourite place list locally, Diane refuses to become a "gastro" pub for which we are truly grateful, long May she and her team run this traditional pub, we shall be recommending it to everyone we know.

Thank Pat J

If you haven't been here, go! From the welcome from the minute we walked through the door, to the hassle we gave them because 4 of our party were half an hour late. Nothing was too much trouble, food drink and price were all excellent. Do yourselves a favor!

We went with friends for Sunday lunch recently, and I have to say, the food, the service and the atmosphere were very good indeed. The landlady gave us a lovely welcome, and told us what was on the menu, and intoduced us to ' Monty', the lovely Golden retriever.
The meat was of very good quality, locally sourced I believe, and served hot, which seems rare these days. If I had one small gripe, it would be that the portions of meat were fairly small, but at a reasonable 10 pounds for two courses was good value, and we will certainly return in the near future.

Having enjoyed a group pub night and a guys lunch, where better to recommend the ladies for their lunch. But what a let down. This, that, and the other not available or run out of; and please not the hard luck story of numbers - you were not that busy. Even Tesco and a Sainsburys a half mile away but no garlic bread as run out of garlic! Come on get real, if you want to stay ahead of the Fareham choice then realise you need to have both choice and availability. Fareham's premier pub - you let us down.
