we had an overnight stay at the Roundabout. The hotel staff were welcoming and pleasant and the hotel itself had much character. The bed was comfy, but the room was quite tired looking and could have done with a good clean, the curtains were ill fitting and dirty. The carpet had seen better days and the bedside lamps were thick with dust. There was tea/coffee making facilities in the bedroom, but as one of the cups had a thick grooved line of remnants of coffee in it, we thought we would give it a miss! The full English Breakfast was excellent and couldn't be faulted, although more coffee would have been nice instead of the one cup served. Be careful of the card key which you are issued with as we had numerous problems with them, having to get staff up and down to sort this out.
Although, the breakfast was tasty, my last memory of the Roundabout, as we drove away, was seeing the Cook/Chef outside the dirty looking backdoor dragging on a cigarette!!

My wife and I stayed in room 24 at The Roundabout Hotel for two nights from 30th August 2013. Before making the booking I was aware of the location so a fairly high noise level was expected.
The receptionist was cheerful and efficient when checking us in. However it didn't take long for me to return with a list of faults. The wardrobe doors wouldn't open without a hefty shove it was necessary to open both doors as the chest of drawers was inside the wardrobe. One bedside light didn't work. The shower fitting fell apart. The bathroom shelf sloped so much items fell off it. She said she would have to report the faults to 'management', and later advised that all would be put right with the exception of the sloping shelf. The wardrobe doors were partially freed off, but one came off it's runner on the last morning. The bedside light was, apparently, fitted with a new bulb, this flashed and went out when it was switched on, a further two reports of this fault were ignored. The shower fitting could not be repaired until the following day, Saturday, and this was indeed fixed following our outing to the coast in the morning, I see a previous reviewer had a similar problem in early August. The sloping bathroom shelf still slopes.
What I did not report was that there was a piece of broken glass on the bathroom floor, as both my wife and I were aware of it we decided to leave it there to give some idea of efficiency of room cleaning. It was still there when we checked out.
Breakfast was barely adequate in quantity and quality, it took three requests to get a second cup of coffee. It is also clear that the pots of marmalade are returned to the breakfast table the following day whether they were partially used or not.
There was no receptionist on duty when we checked out so room keys were left in reception.

We arrived early before check in time and we were given coffee whilst we waited for the room to be ready. The room was on top floor and fine apart from the shower (the holder was broken so had to use as hand shower) the room was a good size and clean. The door key passes stopped working twice and had to be recharged. The breakfast was good. The hotel is on a busy road so quite noisy. Only a five minute walk to Fareham but you do have to cross 2 busy roads

Some of the negative reviews of this hotel are very unfair. Yes there was a lot of traffic noise but if you choose to stay in a hotel on a busy roundabout this is to be expected. Clearly in winter months this would not be so bad as you can close the Windows. I stayed one night in a spotlessly clean single room which was a decent size, with a comfortable if creaky bed. The only problem was with the washbasin in the bathroom which had not been sunk deep enough into the unit so if you wanted to rinse your hands under the running tap you couldn't as the spout of the tap was touching the top of the basin. The restaurant at the hotel was seriously understaffed for a Saturday night and I had to wait exactly one hour before my somewhat mediocre meal was served and half an hour before one rather stale roll was brought "to keep me going". As I had to leave in the morning very early before breakfast was served I was offered a sandwich which presumably would have been made the night before. Given the staleness of the roll at dinner I declined but the offer was kind and I appreciated it.

This was by far the worse hotel I have stayed in, I am aware that it is a budget hotel so did not expect it to be amazing but it was not very clean, on the busiest roundabout ever and the management allowed drunk guests to stay out on the terrace/pub garden until 2.30am making lots of noise, sleep was impossible.

The bar food was awful - my husband's meal arrived a full 20 minutes before the other food, my burger was burnt and the nachos had so little sauce it was like eating tortilla chips. Stay there at your peril!!!

Normally I wouldn't complain however, after one of the worst nights sleep ever I am compelled to let other people know that although it is cheap there's no point staying here if you actually want to get some sleep. The hotel is on a very busy roundabout that starts to get busy at about 5am. Which doesn't help, however aside from the traffic we also had the delight of 2 drunks that had been in the bar who were sat outside shouting and singing until 2.30am on a Tuesday night. No one made any attempt to get them to move inside or to leave. So after not getting to sleep until 3am we were then woken up at 5am. Not such a successful night. On a positive note supposedly the breakfast is good. The traffic would probably be more bearable in the winter when the windows could stay shut.

Having read some of the bad reviews regarding not honouring bookings, after a long drive down to the hotel we were very relieved to find that our booking via booking.com was infact honoured.

The room was a bit compact, but was more than adequate for our three night stay and was not marred by a creaky walk up the stairs (it's an old building so it shouldn't be a major shock that the stairs would creak!)

The staff were a nice and friendly bunch and you really got the impression that nothing would be too much trouble for them.

Breakfast was good, with a relaxed atmosphere that made you feel comfortable, offering more coffee etc and not seeming to rush you away from the table.

We didn't sample the A'la Carte menu, but we had a couple of bar snacks there and enjoyed them. Good pub grub!

The location itself is (obviously) near a major roundabout so there wasn't anyway else to go for a drink unless you get a taxi, however the hotel will gladly ring one for you and for 4 quid you can get into Fareham town where there's a few pubs and restaurants, takeaways.

If we ever go down that way again (we went for the Goodwood Festival) we would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 10 which was at the back of the hotel and away from traffic noise - if you want a...
