Having heard there was a new chef at The Cricketers, we decided to try it for lunch today. FIRST CLASS! The small things that count - linen napkins for instance. Pleasant staff, who served us quickly but unobtrusively. We had the shared Camambert with salad, bread and chutney. Totally delicious, with a lovely chilled glass of white wine. The pub itself is in the best spot in the village, overlooking the wonderful cricket green.
Thoroughly enjoyed myself and look forward to returning soon.

came here about a year ago and it was just ok, not enough of a reason to rush back so when we heard it was under new management we thought we would give another try as its such an idyllic location. what a difference a year can make...food was excellent backed up by a fantastic wine list and a very friendly waitress who looked after our every need with effortless service, very organised, friendly and relaxed feel to the pub now, just needs a lick of paint and it will be faultless.

Had lunch with friends on a saturday and was really looking forward to it, especially as in the past we had enjoyed the food in Cricketers. The service was very poor from start to finish and there where huge delays in getting our order taken and in between courses. Waiter also brought the wrong starter platter out, which was for the table next to us. When we did recieve our seafood platter it came with no bread, which we had to ask for. Main meal was awful, food was not pipeing hot and side orders came with no spoons for serving. Overall this was a huge disappointment and totally over priced. The meal for four was over 80 pounds and that was with out desert. It was not worth that. Three years ago we had out pre wedding party in this pub and the food, staff and service was amazing under old management!! Shame because it's a beautiful location.

My wife and I went for meal on my birthday and went with great expectations but how we were so disappointed! My wife wanted sea bass which was on the menu but unfortunately she was told it was unavailable, instead she was offered another fish but could hardly eat it as it had not been deboned. I had a steak which tasted as though it had been taken out of a freezer, defrosted and cooked and served all within a few minutes - it simply was tasteless. The place was virtually empty apart from one other table and lacked an atmosphere which made the whole dining experience rather poor.
Overall opinion: don't be taken in by the lovely external appearance & location, they charge high prices for very average food - would not go again - what potential it has has in my view been wasted.
