My friend and I were about to pop to costa coffee with her toddler for a quick drink. We saw the sign and agreed we should support independant coffee shops. Once we were inside we realised it wasn't the ideal place to bring a pram and a toddler. However the owner was really welcoming and polite and went out of her way to make us comfortable.
We only had coffees and a flapjack which came in a plastic packet unfortunately. Even if it was presented out of its packet it would help give an impression of homemade even if it wasn't homemade!
These kind of places can beat costa hands down by serving homemade treats and tea in lovely china. I would go again (without the toddler!) but would like to see homemade treats. Everyone else there was really enjoying the food and it seemed like it was busy with local people which is always a good sign.
