The other visit to Hartley Whitney this year was very successful so I was very keen to try this restaurant, especially as it has won awards in the 'Good food guide'.
The welcome was rather cold and a little disorganised for a large party who had pre-booked. Raita and Mango chutney were very watery but the garlic pickle was a nice twist, the lime pickle was out of this world! There was a great list of specials which all came with pilau rice for £7.95, the Bangladeshi fish looked like a tempting option. The food served here was exceptional it was the service that let down the evening. Highlights of the dishes sampled were the Chicken Dhansak, beautifully spiced and sour. Lemon rice, Bhindi Bhajee and all the nans are well worth a try! Madras was superb, hot and warming. What a shame especially for the Chef who's food was impeccable because unfortunately the front of house service was terrible, it took a long time to finally place our order then when the waiter finally appeared with a pen and pad he walked away in the middle of ordering, then when the plates came I was pushed out of the way!
Left feeling a little bemused, with such fantastic food, how can you get front of house so wrong??
